Looking through all of these options can be a bit intimidating, so today, we’re going to take you through some of our favorite models to see which car might be best for you.

Chevrolet

Malibu

One of the most popular cars on the road, the Chevy Malibu has been around since the 1960s, with a gap from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s. As a midsize model, the Malibu is a fantastic option for a wide range of drivers since it’s neither too big nor too small. This has been very popular for small families since it gives you lots of interior space at a budget-friendly price, and a lot of them are available on the used market.

Cruze

If you’re interested in a smaller model, then the Cruze is a fantastic choice since it’s a compact sedan that still offers a surprisingly spacious interior. The compact design makes it perfect for city driving since you can easily maneuver through crowded city streets, and it offers excellent fuel economy. Production on the Cruze ended with the 2019 model year, but you can find a lot of them on the used market in excellent condition.

Impala

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a larger option, then the full-size Chevy Impala is a terrific choice. Although it went through a lot of different designs and versions in past decades, the most recent version that kicked off with the 2000 model year is a gorgeous sedan that offers impressive sophistication for families and anyone looking for a great driving experience. Chevy has left the Impala behind as they’ve moved their focus to small crossovers, but you can find used Impalas from as recently as 2020.

A red 2020 Chevy Bolt EV is shown from the side on an open road.

Bolt EV

For something a bit different in your next car, consider the Chevy Bolt EV, an all-electric hatchback that is incredibly fun to drive. The Bolt EV has been Chevy’s dominant Electric Vehicle (EV) for several years and has paved the way for an expanding lineup of EVs. As you look at used Bolt EVs, you should pay attention to the model year to get a sense of its charging options and range since this has changed a few times over its lifespan.

Ford

Fusion

If you’re looking for a classic, midsize sedan, but the Chevy Malibu isn’t quite right for you, then check out the Ford Fusion. One of the great things about the Fusion is that over the last decade, it was offered with a wide range of options: from all-wheel drive and performance engines to hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. Although production on the Fusion ended with the 2020 model year, you can find a lot of them on the used market in excellent condition.

Focus

This is one of our favorite used cars for anyone that does a lot of driving in Cincinnati; the Ford Focus is a compact sedan with a hatchback design that’s incredibly practical. It was first introduced for the 2000 model year and a second-generation launched in 2012, though production ended in 2018. You can find hatchbacks, traditional sedans, and even EV versions of the Focus on the used market, making it a great choice with a ton of flexibility.

Honda

Civic

You might’ve noticed the trend so far with domestic sedans: they’ve mostly been canceled in the last few years. Fortunately, import brands like Honda understand that plenty of Americans are still looking for great cars. The Honda Civic is a compact model that’s been around for decades and is now in its 10th generation. That’s a ton of different used models to choose from, with a wide range of impressive engines and even hybrid models available.

A grey 2021 Honda Accord Touring is shown parked outside of a modern home.

Accord

For something a bit bigger, the Accord is Honda’s midsize sedan that’s been one of the most popular cars in America for decades. With nine generations of success, Honda has refined and updated the Accord time and again, including a wide range of impressive engines and even hybrids available for some years. This gives you tremendous freedom to find exactly the right combination of features for what you need.

Nissan

Altima

The most remarkable thing about Nissan’s car lineup is just how deep it is – you have a ton of options here, starting with the Altima. This is one of two Nissan midsize sedans, and it’s been very popular since it was first introduced in the early 1990s. In recent years there have been some very impressive engines available along with standard all-wheel drive, which is quite rare in a sedan.

Maxima

Your other midsize option from Nissan is the Maxima, which typically offers a more powerful engine than the Altima. The Maxima is often described as “driving a four-door sports car” thanks to the powerful engines that have been offered in it. These models are also renowned for their sophisticated interior features and options, making them a fantastic choice if you’re looking for a used car that feels new.

Sentra

A compact sedan, the Nissan Sentra has been around for decades and has proven very popular. Due to its small size and excellent fuel economy, the Sentra is a great choice for city drivers in particular, though many small families and couples will find this a great fit. It’s the perfect option if you need to have four adults along with you but prefer a more modest size.

Versa

If you’re looking for something even smaller, the Nissan Versa is a subcompact sedan and one of the smallest four-door cars you’ll find. Despite its diminutive stature, however, it offers a surprisingly spacious interior and sporty performance that makes it a lot of fun to drive. You might prefer the Sentra for a small model if you plan on having adults in the rear seats a lot, but otherwise, this is a great choice.

A white 2019 Nissan Leaf is shown driving on an open highway.

LEAF

Similar to the Chevy Bolt EV, the Nissan LEAF is a four-door hatchback with an all-electric design that lets you leave the gas pump behind. This model has been around for about a decade now and has proven incredibly popular: it’s the second-best-selling EV in history. The second-generation LEAF that launched with the 2017 model year received a stylish update with more power and longer range, so keep that in mind when looking at different models.

Toyota

Corolla

First released here in the 1960s, the Toyota Corolla is well regarded as one of the most dependable vehicles on the road, resulting in a reputation for retaining its value incredibly well. Over the last few decades, it’s become the best selling car in the world and has a dozen generations of reliability and safety to offer. This is a great option for getting around Cincinnati, thanks to its compact design with fantastic fuel efficiency and solid performance.

Camry

Although first introduced as a compact car in the early 1980s, the Camry has been a midsize model since the 1990s and remains incredibly popular. The modern Camry is a stylish and affordable option that’s renowned for retaining its value. The one complaint some people had was that it offered reliable but uninspired performance; this was addressed with the launch of the current generation in 2018 with impressive new engine options.

Avalon

For something a bit larger, the Avalon is Toyota’s full-size option that delivers impressive performance with a comfortable and luxurious interior. This is a terrific car for small families not interested in a crossover SUV since you get plenty of room inside to stretch out or load up with everything you need to take with you. Like other Toyota models, it’s highly regarded for reliability and a smooth driving experience that is ideal for a wide range of road conditions.
