2025 Chevy Colorado vs 2025 Jeep Gladiator

Even when you compare it to other popular models out there, like looking at the 2025 Chevy Colorado vs 2025 Jeep Gladiator, it is clear that Chevy cannot be beat.
Although these are both midsize trucks, you’ll still want plenty of muscle under the hood. The Colorado has the same standard engine as the full-size Chevy Silverado 1500: a 2.7L TurboMax beast that roars to life with 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. Looking at the Jeep Gladiator, it has a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine that seems better in name, but it provides merely 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, which is pretty underwhelming by comparison. That you can get both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) with the Colorado, while the Gladiator only has 4WD, further showcases how Chevy gives you more to enjoy.
If you are interested in a truck to take off-road, then midsize models like these two are excellent options thanks to their impressive capabilities and smaller designs. The Jeep Gladiator is undeniably built with off-road performance in mind, thanks to its standard 4WD and impressive trims like the Rubicon. That being said, the Colorado ZR2 is an amazing off-road pickup, and going with the ZR2 Bison Edition gets you incredible capabilities, including greater ground clearance than Jeep’s truck. Combine all of that with the fact that you get a lot more cargo space and incredible interior features at a significantly lower price with a Colorado, and it’s easy to see why so many people choose Chevy each year.

Performance
One of the most important things to look at with any truck—even midsize models—is the engine you get and the kind of performance it delivers. A weak or meager engine can make driving a truck a frustrating or unpleasant experience, even if other engineering aspects are up to a high standard. Few things are worse than hitting the road, pressing the gas pedal, and being met by a response that feels lacking. Although Jeep benefits from sharing engineering developments with Ram, the engine in the Gladiator cannot match what the Chevy Colorado has to offer.
Looking at the 2025 Jeep Gladiator, it is powered by a standard 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, which sounds good initially, but it provides just 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Twenty years ago, that would have been impressive power for a midsize truck, but things have changed since then, and now it feels a bit wanting. The Gladiator does have 7,700 lbs of maximum towing, which is quite good, along with an impressive payload rating. Unfortunately, we find just 35.5 cu.ft. of cargo space in the Gladiator with its rather small bed, and 4WD as the only drivetrain option; we like 4WD, but we prefer having a choice in our drivetrain.
With the 2025 Chevy Colorado, you get one of the best standard engines in the auto industry: a 2.7L TurboMax I-4 engine that delivers 310 hp and an incredible 430 lb-ft of torque. The greater horsepower is nice, but the far superior torque makes a huge difference when accelerating and getting the best overall feel from this pickup. You get 7,700 lbs of maximum towing with the Colorado, just like the Gladiator, but this model gives you nearly 42 cu.ft. of cargo space along with best-in-class bed and tailgate functionality. The fact that you can choose between RWD and 4WD with the Colorado means you can put together the perfect pickup that handles exactly how you want it to.
Capabilities
There is a lot to like about midsize trucks, but one of our favorite things about these models is how well they work for heading off-road. Their smaller size and overall feel are perfect for navigating challenging trails where larger trucks can struggle. You still get plenty of towing and payload ratings with these pickups, however, so they can haul a boat behind you and bring along all the supplies you need for a weekend of camping. Choosing the right off-road truck means knowing what kinds of trails you want to conquer and getting a pickup that is up to the task.
There is no denying that the Jeep Gladiator is a solid choice for an off-road pickup; Jeep has been highly regarded for off-road vehicles for decades, so this is no surprise. That being said, there are some areas in which it has fallen behind everything the Colorado brings to the road. Jeep makes 4WD standard for the Gladiator to suggest that every trim is built to hit the trail, but trims like the Rubicon are clearly designed with more off-road functionality to offer. The 2025 Gladiator Rubicon comes with a Rock-Trac Active On-Demand 4WD system, a performance suspension, and 17-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch Falken tires.
Looking at the Chevy Colorado, some trims are better as daily drivers than off-road beasts. If you want to hit the trail, you still have a number of great options like the Trail Boss with its off-road suspension that includes a two-inch factory lift and an ultra-wide stance. The ZR2 trim is our favorite for heading off-road, though, with an exclusive off-road outfit that includes a three-inch factory lift and a high-performance suspension with Multimatic DSSV dampers. To take things to the next level, the ZR2 Bison Edition includes a stamped steel front skid plate, stamped steel front and rear bumpers, and 17-inch beadlock capable wheels with 35-inch tires for greater ground clearance than the best the Gladiator offers.
Interior
Although you have a lot of details to focus on when shopping for your next truck, it is important that you do not overlook what you get inside your pickup. Interior elements, like comfortable seating and tech features, have a big impact on your daily driving experience. These are the kinds of things drivers most often regret missing out on later and wish they had looked at more closely once they have owned a vehicle for a year. Jeep has long been known for pretty barebones interiors, and while they have recently gotten better, Chevy still has the advantage here.
The 2025 Jeep Gladiator’s entry-level Sport trim comes with standard cloth seating and a wash-out interior, which is nice for cleanup after playing outdoors. A push-button start is standard along with air conditioning, cruise control, and steering-wheel-mounted controls. The standard 12.3-inch full-color infotainment display is much better than it used to be, but a 3.5-inch monotone Driver Information Display remains the standard, which is quite underwhelming. Available options and upgrades include a seven-inch color instrument cluster, leather-trimmed seating, and ambient interior lighting at the highest trims.
Looking at the Colorado, Chevy gives you a lot more to enjoy, especially when it comes to standard features. The starting 2025 Colorado trim comes with an 11.3-inch infotainment system with Google Built-In, which is a little smaller than Jeep’s display, but you also get a gorgeous 11-inch color Driver Information Center. Cloth seating is standard, with Remote Keyless Entry, cruise control, and single-zone climate control. Available options take things to the next level with perforated leather-appointed seating, a Bose Premium sound system with seven speakers, and heated and ventilated front seats for added comfort.
Get a Great Truck You Can Depend On
As you can see, the 2025 Chevy Colorado has a lot to offer thanks to a far superior engine, incredible off-road equipment, and stunning standard and available features inside. While Jeep has come a long way to make the Gladiator a better truck than it was when it first hit the road, there are still plenty of ways it falls behind the Colorado.
What is truly remarkable, however, is that the Gladiator starts at a price nearly $7k more than the Colorado. A difference in price remains as you go up the trim levels and look at comparable outfits; Chevy gives you a number of fantastic options to choose from at a superior value compared to Jeep’s pickup. It is no wonder, then, that so many people go for the Colorado over the Gladiator each year.
