Its dynamic fuel management system intuitively shuts down select cylinders when they aren’t needed for power, thereby boosting efficiency. It offers 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, a Tahoe with a 5.3L V8 can tow up to 8,400 lbs.
Next, there’s the 6.2L EcoTec3 V8, which is standard on the High Country trim and available on the performance-oriented RST, the off-road-ready Z71, and the luxurious Premier. It also features dynamic fuel management, but it boosts power to 420 hp and torque to 460 lb-ft. With this engine, you can tow up to 8,200 lbs.
Finally, there is the 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I-6. You won’t find this powertrain standard on any trim, but it is available as an option for the LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. If maximum fuel efficiency is your priority, without compromising power, this is the engine for you. With an EPA-estimated 624 miles of highway range per tank, it’s ready for road trips and many, many morning carpool runs.
