Performance
We’ll kick things off with the characteristics truck drivers care about the most: performance dynamics. The foundation for the 2027 Silverado 1500 still includes an engine lineup of one turbocharged I-4, two V8s, and a diesel I-6. However, there are some important differences to be aware of…
Strong Engine Options
The most exciting news for 2027 is that the V8s have grown: the 2026 model’s V8s were 5.3L and 6.2L, while the newer V8s are 5.7L and 6.6L. While Chevy hasn’t yet released the exact figures for these engines, it has assured us that these deliver more horsepower and torque than ever before.
On either end of the powertrain lineup, you’ll still find a 2.7L TurboMax I-4 and a 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel I-6. However, for the 2027 model year, the I-4 gets a ten-speed automatic transmission, whereas the 2026 Silverado 1500 had an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The closer gear ratios of the ten-speed transmission enable drivers to stay in the optimal power and torque range for smoother towing and acceleration. So for 2027, if you like the precision of a ten-speed transmission, you aren’t pushed into the larger engine options to get it; you can have it with the efficient and affordable 2.7L TurboMax I-4.
Off-Road Trim Levels
Chevy also made some changes to its off-road offerings for the 2027 Silverado 1500 in response to high demand for more rugged options. For 2027, the Silverado 1500 boasts three highly capable off-road trims: the ZR2, the Custom Trail Boss, and the all-new Trail Boss.
The incredible ZR2 is still part of the lineup, but for 2027, it enjoys new jounce control dampers, designed to absorb extreme impacts during high-speed driving, large jumps, and generally turbulent terrain exceptionally well when paired with the Multimatic DSSV dampers. The 2027 Silverado 1500 ZR2 also gets tires that are two inches larger than those on the 2026 model: 35 inches compared to 33 inches.
The 2027 model also gets an off-road trim that the 2026 model didn’t have: the Trail Boss. It boasts:
- A two-inch factory lift
- Monotube shocks and skid plates
- An automatic locking rear differential
- 34-inch Mud Terrain tires
The Custom Trail Boss remains part of the off-road lineup for 2027, but the LT Trail Boss has been dropped. In fact, for 2027, the Silverado 1500 dropped all of its LT trims.

- An all-new 11.5-inch front passenger screen, which is standard on the ZR2 and High Country. Passengers can manage navigation tools, choose playlists, and receive assistance or entertainment in other ways using this screen.
If you regularly ride with a co-pilot, you’ll appreciate the agency that this new front-passenger screen gives them. The 2027 Silverado 1500 continues to have a driver information display, too: it’s marginally smaller than the 2026 model’s, at 12.2 inches compared to 12.3 inches, but it delivers the same important journey and vehicle details.
Other favorite features remain, too, including a head-up display that projects important stats onto your windshield, and a digital rearview mirror that turns your rearview mirror into a display for your rearview camera. The 2027 model boasts sprawling screens throughout the cockpit, so you’re never more than a swipe or glance from the information you need.
Driver Assistance Features
The 2027 Silverado 1500 keeps the driver assistance features we already loved in the 2026 model, but it makes standard some that were once only available on select trims. Super Cruise (Chevy’s hands-free driving tool with trailering capability) remains, but its availability has expanded across the trims. For 2027, it is standard on the High Country and ZR2; in 2026, Super Cruise was only available for the High Country (not standard) and wasn’t available for the ZR2.
Additionally, a number of safety features that were once available only on higher trims are now standard across the lineup. These include:
- Rear Cross Traffic Braking
- Front and Rear Park Assist
- Rear Pedestrian Alert
What’s more, the 2027 Silverado 1500 has a few entirely new safety features, such as:

The 2026 model had a single wireless charger, so you and your passengers would need to take turns using it. You can, however, find USB ports throughout the cabin—sufficient for riders who remembered to pack their charging cords.
A New Panoramic Sunroof
This is a big update for the Silverado 1500: a panoramic sunroof. You can find this feature on the High Country trim, and it delivers an uplifting open-air feel by ventilating to let fresh air in and allowing plenty of natural light.
