Excellent Engine Options
As we said, we do not have all the specs yet for the 2027 Silverado 1500, but what we do know gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect from this remarkable truck. With the launch of an all-new generation for the Silverado 1500, Chevy is pulling out all the stops. This starts with incredible engines ready to redefine everything we expect from a pickup.
The 2027 Ram 1500 continues to offer impressive options, including HEMI V8s that Ram brought back after discontinuing them—a move that met with disastrous results and angry fans. Available engines for the 2027 Ram 1500 include:
- 3.6L V6 gas engine: 305 hp and 269 lb-ft torque
- 5.7L V8 gas engine: 395 hp and 410 lb-ft torque
- 3.0L “Hurricane” I-6: 420 hp and 469 lb-ft torque
These are certainly capable engines that deliver solid performance. That standard powertrain is not quite as impressive as we would like, however. The 2.7L TurboMax engine that was standard in the outgoing 2026 Silverado 1500 already tops that, with 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. We know that Chevy will deliver an enhanced version of this engine with best-in-class standard torque.
Where Chevy plans to take things even further is with the new next-generation V8 engines coming with the 2027 Silverado 1500. New 5.7L and 6.6L V8 engines are built on an incredible legacy of Chevy powertrains, and we cannot wait to see the power they bring to the road. Towing Tech & Capabilities
As full-size trucks, both the 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2027 Ram 1500 are great options for towing. We know the Ram 1500 has a lot to offer, but even though its engines deliver big power, it actually falls behind in payload capacity. Looking at the capabilities of these two trucks last year, we see:

You can see that Chevy already has an advantage, and that was with its outgoing engines! We cannot wait to see what the new V8s for the 2027 Silverado 1500 can do. What’s more, Chevy continues to deliver GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system (with trailering functionality) for the Silverado 1500; it is standard on the High Country and ZR2 trims, and it is offered on the new Silverado and Trail Boss trims for expanded availability.

Incredible Tech Features
Long ago, trucks were barebones machines that felt like little more than a bench seat strapped onto a frame. These days, truck cabs are far more sophisticated and innovative. Ram has often led in interior tech features, but the 2027 Silverado 1500 once again gives Chevy the advantage.
The 2027 Ram 1500 has several displays up front that are quite impressive at first glance. A standard 8.4-inch infotainment screen is the biggest letdown, though a 14.5-inch display is available, along with a 12-inch digital driver display and an available 10.25-inch front-passenger interface. Altogether, there is more than 50 inches of combined screens.
Chevy seems to have taken these numbers as a challenge, because the 2027 Silverado 1500 surpasses them in every way. You get a gorgeous 16.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen standard for every trim, along with a standard 12.3-inch digital driver display. An available 11.5-inch front-passenger interface looks great, with more than 60 inches of total screens on offer.
Cool Convenience Features
These big displays are not the only way that Chevy gives you more to enjoy as you drive the 2027 Silverado 1500 compared to the latest Ram 1500. You also get terrific comfort and convenience features, with innovative technology designed to truly enhance your time on the road. Some of this depends on the trim level, but each one will help you make the most of the drive.
The Ram 1500 has some nice features, such as wireless smartphone charging pads, with dual pads on the highest trim levels. Digital key functionality on a smartphone is nice, as is an available digital rearview mirror. Advanced safety features (such as an available 360-degree surround-view camera system) make the 2027 Ram 1500 easier to maneuver in tight spots.
With the 2027 Silverado 1500, Chevy offers incredible convenience features, including available dual wireless charging pads for two devices simultaneously. Upper trims like the High Country get a stunning panoramic sunroof for an incredible view of the sky overhead, while a new Multi-Flex center console lets you easily adjust your cockpit for functionality, storage, and everything else you need.
Off-Road Trims
We all know that full-size trucks work well for getting work done, but they can also be the perfect choice for heading off-road. Whether you need to reach remote destinations to tackle serious jobs or you just like hitting the trail on the weekend, both of these trucks have trim levels to do just that. While the 2027 Ram 1500 has a lot to offer, we prefer the off-road potential of the 2027 Silverado 1500.
The Ram 1500’s Off-Road Options
The best way to get a sense of what each of these trucks can do is to look at them individually and see what off-road options they offer. Starting with the 2027 Ram 1500, we find a truck that offers a lot. This is no surprise, because Ram has long pushed its full-size pickup to be a leader in off-road capability; we find, however, that Chevy has one-upped it.
Looking at something like the Ram 1500 RHO, we find a truck with big power and capabilities for a wide range of tasks. It comes with factory-installed Bilstein shocks, with impressive articulation and overall performance in rough conditions. The Ram 1500 RHO has high ground clearance, good suspension travel, and a high-speed rear axle.
We also find many drive modes in this trim, with settings for Mud/Sand, Baja, Snow, and other conditions. It has a wide stance with widebody fender flares for a bold presence out on the trail, plus 35-inch off-road-ready tires for impressive grip. So, how does Chevy compete?
Go Further With a 2027 Silverado 1500
Although we are still waiting on some specifics about what the latest Silverado 1500 can do, what Chevy has released is already remarkable. The legendary ZR2 trim returns as an incredible off-road pickup, featuring 35-inch MT tires, a two-inch factory lift, and a dedicated off-road hood with an enhanced power dome for a more aggressive overall stance. This trim is an absolute beast.
The desert race-proven Multimatic DSSV dampers on the ZR2 can handle pretty much anything the trail throws at you. Plus, the interior has been overhauled with unique Torch Red details, as well as forged carbon-fiber trim throughout—GM’s first use of forged carbon in its vehicles. Meanwhile, the Trail Boss comes with 34-inch MT tires and is another great option for the trail.
If you want to take things even further, the ZR2 Bison Edition remains available and has been developed in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). The 2027 Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison Edition features distinct bumpers, rocker protection, and 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels. You also get a comprehensive set of skid plates to protect its underbody. All of this comes together to create something truly remarkable.
