  • Performance

A Red Line edition 2019 Chevy Colorado is in a dark room.

While both vehicles offer the choice of 2WD and 4WD, that is exactly where their similarities end. The 2019 Chevy Colorado comes in multiple trim levels with several engine options, whereas the 2019 Ford Ranger only has three trim levels and a single engine.

    2019 Chevy Colorado

The 2019 Chevy Colorado packs a major punch when it comes to power and overall performance. This beast is available with three different engine options to best suit your needs. The first choice is the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that generates 200 HP and 191 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, it can tow up to 3,500 pounds and has a fuel economy set at 23 mpg combined (20 city/26 highway). The second option is the 3.6L DOHC V6 engine that pushes out 308 hp (best-in-class) and 275 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, it can tow up to 7,000 pounds and has a fuel economy set at 21 mpg combined (18 city/25 highway). The final option is the Duramax 2.8L Turbo-Diesel engine that produces 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque (best-in-class). Equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, it can tow 7,700 pounds (best-in-class) and has a best-in-class fuel economy set at 25 mpg combined (20 city/30 highway). As far as performance goes, the 2019 Chevy Colorado gets gold stars all around.

    2019 Ford Ranger

On the flip-side, the 2019 Ford Ranger only has one engine across all three trim levels. Under the hood rests the 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 engine that generates 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission, it can tow up to 7,500 pounds and has a fuel economy set at 23 mpg combined (21 city/ 26 highway). However, it does come standard with auto start-stop technology that shuts off the engine when you press on the brakes. Once the brake pedal is released, it automatically restarts the engine. This helps to save on fuel and is ideal for people living in big cities with heavy rush hour traffic. With multiple engine options, including a diesel, and a max towing capacity of 7,700 lbs, it is clear that the 2019 Chevy Colorado is a few steps above the 2019 Ford Ranger in the performance department.
