Crossover SUVs are all the rage—and with good reason. A crossover has a build similar to a sedan, which means it’s a nimble, peppy drive that can easily manage tight city streets. Maneuvering around Cincinnati is as easy as can be in a crossover—yet, despite its structure, the crossover features plenty of the positives of larger SUVs without you having to deal with the bulk. Comfortable seating with plenty of cargo space is always on the agenda when you’re purchasing a crossover SUV—or, at least, it should be. The market today is crowded with crossovers, but there are only a few that truly let you experience all a crossover SUV can offer—one that’s great for commuters and families alike.

Of course, it can sometimes be hard to figure out which crossover serves best, thanks to the crowded marketplace. Today, we want to explore why the 2024 Chevy Equinox is the one to buy, and we’re going to do so by putting it against the 2024 Nissan Rogue. Yep, it’s a battle of the crossovers in our ring today: the 2024 Chevy Equinox vs 2024 Nissan Rogue! Both of these crossovers are popular, best selling vehicles—and with good reason—but allow us to show you why the Equinox consistently edges out the Rogue and why it should be your next purchase when you visit us here at McCluskey Chevrolet.

  • Interior

The gray and brown interior and dash of a 2024 Chevy Equinox is shown.

The interior of a crossover SUV is the area most drivers care about, and it’s easy to see why. The appeal of a crossover is how it’s designed to please many types of drivers, and it’s the design of the interior that will make or break this promise. At its best, a crossover SUV can feel like you have all the space you need and a level of comfort that makes even the longest trips enjoyable. At its worst, it's just not as roomy as a full-size SUV.

There’s no question about it: the 2024 Chevy Equinox shows the crossover at its optimal. Everything comes together to give you the finest crossover experience possible. The Equinox offers you up to 63.9 cu.ft. of cargo space so that you can store your luggage or load your equipment without worrying that you’ll run out of space too fast. There’s a hidden storage compartment under the rear floor, so you can place any valuables you have out of sight. The hands-free power liftgate will make putting your luggage in simple, too, so anyone can load with ease.

The Equinox does not skimp on comfort, either. There’s an available power driver seat with power lumbar control. This means you’ll be able to set your seat in the best position for you, and your back will feel supported. This is great for when you’re driving across Ohio or even to another state and want to know that you won’t lose focus due to body fatigue.

You can have jet-black cloth seats along with red stitching if you opt for the RS trim, which will make your interior look both classy and sporty, impressing any and all passengers. To top it off, you can go for the optional panoramic sunroof so that you can enjoy some natural sunlight during the day, and your passengers can gaze up at the stars when you’re roaring across Ohio during the night.

How about the Equinox’s competitor? The 2024 Nissan Rogue also has an enviable interior, no doubt about it. It has a similar cargo space to the Equinox, at just a couple of cubic feet more, and its cargo area is simple to use. There’s cloth seating, but the seats can be upgraded to leather with a quilted design. Higher trims can add premium leather, too. The 2024 model is offering a unique chestnut interior coloring, which is of note.

There are plenty of cubbies and storage containers, as well, so you can store smaller items in your Rogue and don’t have to worry about them being lost in the cabin. However, one way in which the Equinox comes out ahead is that it offers almost all the same interior advantages but at a lower starting price. Plus, the Rogue’s trims cost far more than the Equinox’s—so, with the Equinox, you get a fantastic interior but at a lower cost than its competitor.

  • Technology

A close-up of a Chevy badge on a 2024 Chevy Equinox is shown after a 2024 Chevy Equinox vs 2024 Nissan Rogue comparison.

Technology has never been better in today's vehicles, so it’s understandable to want your crossover SUV to have a competitive technological edge. Both the Equinox and the Rogue have a lot to offer in the tech department in ways that make your driving safer, easier, and a lot more fun.

The 2024 Equinox has available Wi-Fi and Alexa built into its system, which you can access via your 7.0-inch diagonal touchscreen. If you want a larger screen, you can opt for the 8.0-inch version, too. Chevy provides the MyLink infotainment interface that makes the touchscreen easy to operate, even for those who are less than tech-savvy. You’ll be able to link your device to your new Equinox, too, thanks to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, both of which are standard on all Equinox models; this way, you can enjoy your tunes or podcasts no matter where you’re driving. Bluetooth also comes with every version of the Equinox, so if you need to chat with friends or catch up with coworkers, you’ll be able to do so in a safe fashion, with both hands still on the wheel.

The 2024 Nissan Rogue is also packed with up-to-date technology. It has a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen from which you can manipulate your device, thanks—once again—to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Rogue offers some navigation apps built into the dashboard, too, for those who want to plan out their routes. In place of Alexa, the Rogue has Google Assistant, although it doesn’t have as friendly an interface as the MyLink gives to Equinox drivers.

Once more, though, price plays its part. While both SUVs are about equal in terms of technology, the Equinox can be obtained at a lower starting price, making it win when pitted against the more expensive Rogue.

  • Teen Driver

A red 2024 Chevy Equinox RS is shown parked near a hangar.

The Equinox often beats out the Rogue due to price, but one area in price does not matter when it comes to tech designed to help novice drivers. Why? Because the Rogue does not have such a system. Yes, the Rogue comes with the normal safety programs, all of which are quite good, but Chevy has taken it a step further with Teen Driver technology, which is standard on all Equinox models.

Teen Driver is a system built into the Equinox that can put together a report card on how your teen driver performed on the road, and it can even put certain limits on what they can do while driving around Ohio. For instance, the program can report how many times a safety system kicked in, and it can also report the maximum speed during a drive. In other words, if the Lane Keeping Assist activates twice, that information will be on the report. You can also limit the audio level so that your driver does not have distractions, and you can put a limit on the top speed. This gives you unprecedented knowledge and control over your young driver so that you can feel significantly less stress than other parents.

The Rogue has plenty of great safety features, but it does not have Teen Driver mode. Since many customers seeking a crossover SUV are ones with family, this makes the Equinox a clear winner.
