Speaking of passing the time…a worthwhile minute or two should be spent learning about the latest Chevy family member - the all-new for 2016 Chevy Camaro.
Starting at
It’s true. Few muscle-car lovers, if any, would associate fuel efficiency with serious muscle and brawn, but the all-new Camaro combines the beauty of both and the result is nothing short of innovative. Behind the wheel of the all-new Camaro, drivers can enjoy competitive fuel efficiency and the pulse-pounding performance of the American muscle car. Think of it as flexing serious, iconic muscle, but without breaking the bank.
A whopping 200 pounds lighter than its predecessor, the 2016 Camaro features improved agility and enhanced aerodynamics. Equipped with a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, generating 275 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, optional muscle comes from the 3.6-liter V6 engine, which is able to produce 335 horsepower and 284 lb.-ft. of torque. Available in two body styles - the coupe or convertible - the Camaro further distinguishes itself across a range of trim levels, with the 1SS and 2SS the only ones equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 engine, producing an astonishing 455 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque.
Regardless of engine, all 2016 Camaros are operated by a standard six-speed manual transmission, with an optional eight-speed automatic, complete with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
About that fuel economy…The V6, with manual operation, is rated at 21 mpg combined, which breaks down to 18 city and 27 highway mpg. Mated to the automatic alternative, the V8 returns 20 mpg combined and 17 city or 28 hwy mpg. The same engine, but with manual setup, is rated at 19 mpg combined and 16 city, 25 highway.
Performance testing returned a zero to sixty mph time of 4.1 seconds with top speeds maxing out at 155 mph.
Seriously. With respect to customization and making this dream machine your very own - the possibilities are about as endless as your own imagination. Once you’ve isolated your preference between coupe or convertible (geography usually comes into serious play here), you’ll then have a wealth of options to consider between trims, colors, wheels, stripes, ground effects, grilles, interiors, and packages. When you think about mix and matching any or all of these categories, it’s easy to see why GM offered a Camaro Configurator on its website. It’s just too fun to pass up.

Who Buys a New Camaro?

Fortunately, the stereotypes surrounding certain car purchases have dissipated as the automotive industry has evolved. Sure, there is likely some guy suffering a mid-life crisis who is itching to own an iconic muscle car like the Camaro, but increasingly this segment is serving a variety of demographics, including young professionals and those eager to assert their individuality and unique presence on the road.
And while you likely won’t encounter this beast in the carpool line, don’t be surprised to increasingly encounter colleagues who opt to drive a piece of this American legacy, while feeling like they have permission to do so, thanks to its competitive fuel economy and more refined on-road manners.
Just because - or perhaps because - we’re talking muscle, it’s worth mentioning that Chevy makes the same efforts to ensure outstanding safety as thrill-inspiring performance. In accordance with Chevy’s “Prevent, Protect, Respond” safety philosophy, all Camaros feature a rear vision camera with available Rear Park Assist, as well as Stabilitrak Electronic Stability Control system, and optional features like: Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change and Rear Cross Traffic alerts.
Opting for the coupe model provides drivers and passengers with eight standard airbags, along with the newly released front passenger and driver knee airbags - all surrounded by an extra high-strength steel safety cage. For added reassurance, the 2016 Chevy Camaro comes outfitted with Chevy’s exclusive OnStar Guidance plan for six months with OnStar Automatic Crash Response system.
And the Winner is…
Aside from the specs, which speak for themselves, the 2016 Chevy Camaro has already cornered the market with respect to serious accolades and industry awards. Just to highlight a few - Motor Trend named the 2016 Chevy Camaro it’s “Car of the Year,” while Car and Driver listed it among its Ten Best, and Kelley Blue Book routinely brands the Camaro with its “Best Resale Value” award. Reliability isn’t necessarily associated with performance machines, but the 2016 Camaro turns that assumption on its head, considering that J.D. Power lists Chevy’s latest Camaro as its “Most Dependable Sports Car, Four Years in a Row.”
With a starting MSRP of $25,700, this is the ideal time to shop for a new Camaro, particularly considering Chevy’s own Summer Down event, which includes a $1,000 Bonus Tag Cash Allowance on select vehicles in stock.
