  • Overview

The midsize Chevy Colorado embodies a strategic design, providing understated value, confident versatility and trustworthy performance to those who may not require everything that a full-size truck brings to the table. In fact, the Colorado should be at the top of the list for anyone in search of truck utility, off-road capability and a wealth of configuration options, albeit with car-like maneuverability and improved fuel economy. In this sense, the Colorado’s recent refresh reaffirmed every ounce of its appeal and relevance. It spoke to the commuters and small businesses who required a work truck. Ever-evolving, it is available in a number of cab, bed and trim configurations. And as with all Chevy offerings, it seamlessly integrates available technologies, reminding everyone that it’s far from being their grandpa’s Chevy pick-up. When in search of a 2018 Chevy Colorado in Cincinnati, OH drivers can rest assured that all of their needs will be met. How does the Colorado do it? Let’s take a closer look and find out.

  • Technology

But rest assured, the Colorado is more than well-equipped. As with all Chevy offerings, it stands head-and-shoulders above its competition in terms of incorporating available technologies.

Even at the base level the Bluetooth-enabled Colorado is equipped with Chevy’s MyLink system, including voice controls and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The infotainment system is based around a 7-inch display (with rearview camera) and a six-speaker sound system. Moving up to the Work Truck (WT) trim, options can be dialed up or down as needed, but additional options include Navigation, 4G LTE WiFi, and even OnStar telematic services. The LT trim serves up nearly all of the above including additional options, upgrading the interface to an 8-inch touchscreen and the audio to a seven-speaker BOSE sound system.

And for an upgraded driving experience, be it on-road or off, performance-inspired technologies abound as options in the Z71 and ZR2 trims. A wealth of customizable options are there for the picking (proving that the Colorado can be just as fun, as it is practical).

Cabin design for small and midsize trucks is most effective when executed with tact and reserve. A focus on strong material choices, well-proportioned and designed seating, intuitive control placement and well-thought-out storage options make for the type of refinements that are always welcome.

This sense of design economy is present in the Colorado, which boasts a comfortable yet commanding upright driving position. Offering strong forward visibility, and easy-to-reach controls make the Colorado an ideal consideration for any drivers who consider themselves unimpressed by a kitchen-sink design mentality.

  • Exterior

The 2018 Chevy Colorado makes an immediate impression whether you opt for (i) Extended Cab, with Long Bed (ii) Crew Cab with Short Bed, or (iii) Crew Cab with a Long bed. Based on the same core aesthetic, all Colorado’s carry a low, wide stance that conveys both power and athleticism. At a standstill, there is a clear sense of potential energy just waiting to be unleashed.

Upon its approach, the Colorado is distinctively and inarguably Chevy. Its faith to brand is reinforced by its iconic front fascia and stylized contours, circling back to an equally on-brand rear face. Embodying power without rigidity, speed without any loss of refinement, it offers a sporty aesthetic the likes of which are inevitably sacrificed in full-size offerings.

  • Performance

A white off-road special edition 2018 Chevy Colorado is driving through a rocky trail.

The Colorado serves up a few different powertrain options, beginning with the 2.5-liter Inline four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual transmission, standard in the Base and WT trims. Channeling 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque, the Colorado has a strong foundation built upon confident performance.

But beginning with the WT trim level, you can opt for a six-speed automatic transmission, as well as two additional powertrains. The first comes in the form of a 3.6-liter V6 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Delivering 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, it enhances the Colorado’s overall capabilities even further. And for those who prefer a diesel variant, a 2.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder might be exactly what you’re looking for. Mated to a six-speed automatic, this Colorado serves up 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Of these two additional options, the former (V6) delivers a 7000 tow rating, while the latter (diesel) dials that number up to 7700 LBS, earning ‘Best-in-Class’ standing. In addition, it is worth noting the Colorado’s payload rating of up to 1548 LBS.
