  • Overview

A red 2018 Chevy Corvette is parked and facing left.

The Chevrolet Corvette is one of the premier American-made sports cars available on the market today. Spanning back 65 years to the mid-20th century, it’s easy to see why this car has become a collector’s item for car buffs and speed enthusiasts alike. High-quality performance meets sleek lines and superior handling no matter what year of Corvette you look at. Even though the model has gone through numerous revisions over the years, each change has never affected the care and experience Chevy puts into this vehicle.

Into the prime of its 65th birthday, the 2018 Chevy Corvette has seen several small changes around the interior and exterior touches. While the common components like the ultra-performance 650hp in the Zo6 have remained unchanged, minor tweaks like upgraded 19in/20in front/rear wheels are present on some of the trims like the Stingray Z51. For the collectors out there, be sure to check out the 65th anniversary special Carbon 65 model with carbon fiber accents around the interior and exterior. Pricing starts at $55,495.

  • Features

A birds eye view of the grey leather interior of the 2018 Chevy Corvette.

The standard and optional features of the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette are primarily focused around the high-performance nature of the vehicle. While you will find basic modern standards like an infotainment system and HD sound system, a good portion of the safety and convenience features are there to remind you of the fact that you are behind the wheel of something capable of dashing down the road without a second thought.

Safety features include a standard assortment of driver/passenger front and side airbags with a couple of driver assistance options such as a rear backup camera. People looking for a family car, however, might want to look elsewhere given the lack of more advanced systems like blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control. One unique missing feature is the lack of a spare tire. Instead, the Corvette comes with run-flat tires to avoid the need of a spare altogether.

Convenience features are also centered around the driving experience. Basic heated/cooled front seating is available to adjust your comfort depending on the temperature. The infotainment system sports a variety of functions such as 4G LTE wireless connectivity, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, voice control, optional navigation, and three USB ports in the interior. Most of these features allow for greater smart device connectivity including Bluetooth audio and phone hookups. The navigation will provide real-time traffic and weather reports using the mobile wifi hotspot connection available for $20 per month.

The optional HUD might be an attractive feature to anyone wanting important driving information like speed and mileage projected safely in their main sight while in motion. The HUD is designed to make the whole driving experience safer by keeping the driver’s eyes on the road at all times. Cars lacking this feature will include the standard speedometer and odometer setup behind the main wheel.

  • Design

A red 2018 Corvette is parked on a racetrack during the daytime.

Since it is a sports car, you know the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette is designed like a missile. It might not have the mind-bending aerodynamics of a half-a-million dollar luxury sports vehicle, but it does have the lines to push air aside with ease as it cruises down the highway. More importantly, unlike higher-end options, the design of this car also preserves enough everyday convenience to make the daily drive enjoyable for you and an additional passenger.

The exterior of the vehicle has the same classic performance-portions between the front and back all front-engine sports cars use to maximize aerodynamics. The overall profile of the body ranges around 75 inches in width and 177 inches in length depending on the particular model. With a height of only 48.8 inches, ground clearance is rather minimal to keep the car low to the ground for better performance.

The front end is minimal in height, barely reaching over the wheel wells before sweeping back into the front windshield. Visibility at night remains high with the narrow-yet-bright headlights in the front which follow the curved edge lines along the hood. Depending on your choice of Corvette model, you will find either a swept back roof or empty space on the convertible.

Given that this car is all about speed and performance, the interior space is understandably minimal. Focusing on front interior space, the Corvette provides an unrivaled amount of headroom and legroom in its class. If the roof is an issue, choose the convertible to cast off the height limitations. Interior touches include upgraded, high-performance bucket seats, power adjustable seats and steering wheel, and an optional heads-up display.

The limited Carbon 65 edition shares the same convertible profile with the Grand Sport 3LT and Zo6 models. Specifications and performance remain the same, but the exterior and interior styles are accented with carbon fiber touches. This creates a black highlight around visible areas such as the hood, ground, roof, and tonneau inserts. The center caps and steering wheel are all wrapped in carbon fiber as well.

  • Performance

Two white 2018 Chevy Corvettes are parked side-to-side on a race track while the sunsets behind them.

If there is one thing you can truly count on with a new Corvette, it’s mind-blowing performance. With engines offering horsepower in the mid-triple digits, all of the models and trims are well beyond your average sedan. Even other sports cars often have a hard time offering the same level of performance through engine and powertrain options. Arguably, this is why Chevrolet Corvette owners buy the car in the first place: pure speed, performance, and adrenaline.

Most of the Corvette models and trims come with the same 6.2L V8 engine with 455 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Introduced in the 2017 model, this base engine quickly proved it has the specifications to warrant the Corvette name. With a 0-60 mph acceleration of just 3.7 seconds, you won’t find this engine lacking in the speed and acceleration department. Combined with the seven-speed manual transmission, you will feel like you are behind the wheel of a true racecar while remaining street legal enough to cruise to your local grocery store.

If 455 horsepower isn’t enough, the better alternative is the Corvette Zo6 model featuring a 6.2L V8 that has been supercharged for good measure. 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque will propel this car to 60 mph in just three seconds flat. On top of the seven-speed manual transmission, you can also choose an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters to let the car do most of the legwork while you enjoy the experience of high performance.
