The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer has come a long way since the late 1990s, when the TrailBlazer moniker made its debut as part of the Blazer lineup. The TrailBlazer was the Blazer’s top-tier trim and was meant to rejuvenate interest in the Blazer. Instead, the TrailBlazer was so popular that it eventually eclipsed the Blazer and earned a lineup of its own in 2002. Three years later, the Blazer was discontinued, and the TrailBlazer settled in as Chevy’s most popular SUV thanks to its quick acceleration, powerful engine, nimble handling, and spacious cabin ideal for passengers and cargo.
Although the TrailBlazer was discontinued and replaced by the Traverse in 2009, it wasn’t the end of the line for the SUV, at least not permanently. Chevy reintroduced the Trailblazer to markets around the world from Southeast Asia and South Africa to India and Australia in 2012. Now based on the Chevy Colorado truck platform, this second-generation Trailblazer offered seating for seven and even more power than its predecessor. The question was, “Would Chevy ever bring the Trailblazer back to American roads?”
Chevy drivers finally got their wish in 2021 when the automaker extended its SUV lineup with the all-new Trailblazer. Rugged and sporty, the subcompact SUV quickly found its footing in the lineup and continues to get better with age. The 2022 Trailblazer is nimble, stylish, functional, and loaded with features, all of which extend Chevy’s reputation and continue the Trailblazer’s legacy on American roads from coast to coast.

Chevy knows that drivers love to have options, and that’s why you have plenty to choose from in the 2022 Trailblazer lineup. That lineup starts with the LS, which is priced at $21,600* and comes standard with a 7-inch color touchscreen display that’s home to the Chevrolet Infotainment System. The LS also sets the benchmark for the Trailblazer’s safety suite and includes standard tools like Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, a rear vision camera, Chevy’s exclusive Teen Driver technology, IntelliBeam headlamps, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning.
The LT builds on the LS and offers available upgrades like a heated steering wheel. The ACTIV and RS trims are truly the most impressive in the fleet and give the Trailblazer a distinct purpose and aesthetic. The ACTIV is designed with adventure in mind and boasts the beefier 1.3-liter turbo engine, sport terrain tires, an off-road-tuned suspension, and a functional front skid plate that protects the Trailblazer’s underbody from debris on the trail. The RS switches gears entirely and is focused on performance. Like the ACTIV, it’s powered by the 1.3-liter turbo as opposed to the 1.2-liter engine. It’s also instantly recognizable with its high-gloss black machined aluminum wheels, black exterior details, unique mesh grille, and dual exhaust outlets with chrome tips.
For 2022, Chevy extends the Trailblazer’s exterior color palette for every trim with the addition of Blue Glow Metallic, Crimson Metallic, Mahogany Red Metallic, and Vivid Orange Metallic, all of which give the Trailblazer a sophisticated look. You’ll also find several new upgrades that enhance the Trailblazer’s capability. For 2022, you can now add roof rack cross rails, which is a great option for luggage, bicycles, kayaks, and other gear. You can also add a factory-installed trailer package that includes the trailer hitch, harness, and bezel, all of which readies the SUV for hauling a small trailer.
As a subcompact SUV, the 2022 Trailblazer is fun to drive and easy to maneuver in tight spaces whether you’re navigating rush-hour traffic in the city or running errands around town. The Trailblazer's agility comes from one of two engine options - a 1.2-liter turbo or 1.3-liter turbo. The 1.2-liter turbo engine comes standard on the LS and LT and is paired with a continuously variable transmission that prioritizes efficiency. This combination delivers 137 horsepower and the Trailblazer’s best fuel economy at 29 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway.
The Trailblazer RS and ACTIV are both powered by the larger, 1.3-liter turbocharged engine. The 1.3-liter is paired with the continuously variable transmission on front-wheel drive models or a 9-speed automatic transmission on all-wheel drive models to deliver 155 horsepower. This is significantly more power than the 1.2-liter turbo and makes the RS and ACTIV trims more fun to drive and faster to accelerate. This power doesn’t drastically impact the Trailblazer’s efficiency, with front-wheel drive models averaging 29 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway, while all-wheel drive models average 26 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway.
Chevy extends the Trailblazer’s performance and capability with selectable drive modes that include Normal, Sport, Snow, and AWD (if equipped). Normal Mode is ideal for commuting and optimizes the engine’s efficiency and performance to deliver a comfortable and stable ride. Snow Mode enhances the response of the throttle for quicker acceleration and better traction on snowy or icy roads. Sport Mode improves steering responsiveness and adjusts the shift pattern to deliver sport-like performance. AWD Mode boosts the torque in the rear wheels at lower speeds, which gives you more confidence when traveling on gravel, steep, or wet terrain.
Chevy delivers the latest in connectivity on the 2022 Trailblazer, and that means you’ll never miss a text, phone call, or navigational cue when you’re behind the wheel. The Trailblazer is equipped with either a 7-inch or 8-inch color touchscreen display that’s home to the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system. Through the system, you’ll have access to your smartphone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto integration, both of which you can upgrade to wireless.
The infotainment system is also home to a suite of other tools designated to keep you connected and entertained when you’re on the road. Amazon Alexa allows you to use simple voice commands to respond to text messages, make phone calls, stream your favorite music or podcast, get weather or news updates, navigate your route, add items to your shopping list, or control your smart home devices. You’ll also have access to a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that turns the Trailblazer into a mobile office or entertainment venue.
The Trailblazer also offers SiriusXM with 360L. This adds great value to the SUV and gives you access to exclusive content, commercial-free music, shows, interviews, and performances at your fingertips. The system, which features more channels than ever before, gets better the more you use it. It learns your preferences and makes recommendations based on your listening habits, which means a more enjoyable listening experience whether you’re heading out of a town for a weekend getaway or you’re battling rush-hour traffic during your morning commute.
Do you have peace of mind when you’re on the road? Chevy goes to great lengths to ensure you have all the confidence you deserve when you’re behind the wheel of the 2022 Trailblazer. To do this, every Trailblazer comes standard with a rear vision camera and Chevy’s suite of safety and driver-assist tools known as Chevy Safety Assist. The suite includes Automatic Emergency Braking, IntelliBeam Headlamps, a Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning.
Automatic Emergency Braking works in conjunction with Front Pedestrian Braking and Forward Collision Alert to bring the vehicle to an emergency stop or enhance your emergency braking if a frontal collision is detected. The Following Distance Indicator mitigates the risk of tailgating by alerting you when you’re too close to the traffic ahead, while the Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning helps you keep the Trailblazer safely centered in its lane. These tools, along with the IntelliBeam headlamps, work as an extra set of eyes around the vehicle to enhance your vision and minimize the potential for front, rear, and side collisions.
The Trailblazer is also equipped with a rear-seat reminder, Chevy’s exclusive Teen Driver Technology, and 10 standard airbags. You can upgrade the standard rear vision camera to an HD Rear Vision Camera that gives you a clearer view around the SUV. Other available upgrades include Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control, the latter of which replaces traditional cruise control by actively monitoring the traffic ahead and adjusting the Trailblazer’s speed as needed.
