The turbo configuration contributes to this engine’s speedy pickup and is the most fuel-efficient of the gas-powered options, with an average of 19 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway, fairly generous figures for a truck of its size. The eight-speed automatic transmission seamlessly moves through gears, giving you a smooth experience every time.

  Moving to the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 gets you 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The other optional V8 is a larger 6.2L EcoTec3 with an output of 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Both V8 engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission setup. Finally, you can opt for the newly improved inline-six Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I-6. The diesel option delivers 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque with a ten-speed transmission. The Duramax diesel engine is the most fuel-efficient of all, getting an EPA-estimated 24 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway.
