  • Overview

A grey 2018 INFINITI QX30 is facing left.

First conceptualized back in 2015, the INFINITI QX30 was originally unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show. Shortly after, the first generation of this luxury compact crossover made an appearance at the 2015 Los Angeles Motor Show, and the rest is history. Today, a used INFINITI QX30 is a great find and a worthwhile buy.

Since all currently available models are from the first generation, we will take a closer look at each model year. Differences between the model years of used INFINITI QX30s are minor, but they do vary slightly.

Many consider this vehicle to a fusion between a coupe, hatchback, and an SUV. Bringing advantages from each of these body styles, the used INFINITI QX30 is quite a brilliant little ride. It is more athletic than a traditional SUV with better handling too. It offers more versatility than a hatchback and more cargo space than a sedan. Its coupe-like exterior styling gives it a sportier appearance as well.

Able to carry five passengers comfortably, it provides a better driving experience with its powertrain and refined suspension. Highlights of this vehicle include a flat-bottom steering wheel, two-tone leather seating with simulated suede inserts, and the advanced InTouch infotainment system. With four different trim levels to choose from, interior features and exterior styling elements may vary greatly. However, when you get an INFINITI, you will be choosing luxury and sophistication no matter which version you go with.

Behind the second row of seating is 19.2 cu.ft. of cargo room. That’s ample for groceries, luggage, and sports gear. If you need more space, simply fold down the rear seats to access up to 32 cu.ft. of room. That’s pretty impressive for this petite model.

If you are wondering if a used INFINITI QX30 is right for you, let’s explore the 2017, 2018, and 2018 used models.

  • 2017

For the year 2017, all INFINITI QX30 models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, you can choose between front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. The estimated fuel economy for FWD models is set at 27 mpg combined (24 city/33 highway). These numbers drop slightly with an AWD version, which gets about 25 mpg combined (21 city/30 highway).

Its electric power-assist steering provides drivers with a smooth ride and smaller turning circles, which is optimal for city driving. You will be able to make sharp turns with ease inside the used INFINITI QX30. In track tests, AWD models were able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds. That’s a quick time for a crossover.

Slipping behind the wheel of a 2017 INFINITI QX30 is like sliding into a dream. The cabin drips with decadence and is loaded with state-of-the-art technology to make your experience an enjoyable one. Interior features vary depending on the trim level. The Base trim level is anything but basic. Keyless ignition and entry make it easy to slip in and go in the mornings, and you are greeted by sleek leatherette upholstery covering the 8-way manual front seats with lumbar support.

This model also comes standard with the voice-control InTouch infotainment system that is displayed on a 7-inch touchscreen. This operates with Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling, and you can listen to your favorite songs through the 6-speaker sound system. Seamlessly stream your music, pop in a CD, or tune in to HD or satellite radio. An auxiliary jack and two USB ports are also provided. For safety, you can get a view of what’s directly behind your vehicle with the rearview camera. This helps a great deal with parallel street parking and backing out of tight or crowded spaces.

Stepping up the used QX30 Luxury model will add subtle leather upholstery to the heated front seats. For even more of a sophisticated style, the dashboard features a stitched-leather insert. The back row offers an armrest for the comfort of the passengers, and driver memory settings can also be programmed.

The top-of-the-line Premium version gets an entertainment upgrade in the form of a 10-speaker Bose stereo system that will rock your world. This model may also include a panoramic sunroof and the Technology Package. This adds blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, frontal collision warning with emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and a 360-degree camera system.

If you want something a little more athletic, you can spring for the Sport trim level. It’s important to note that this version is only available in FWD, and it comes with a sport-tuned suspension that puts it at about 0.6-inches lower than the other FWD models. The cabin features sport seats that are covered in the same leatherette upholstery as the Base model with suede trim. It does come with the same Bose stereo as the Premium and might also have the optional sunroof and Technology Package.

  • 2018

For the 2018 INFINITI QX30, the engine and mechanics remain the same, but the trim levels have been tweaked and renamed about halfway through the year. The Base became the Pure, the Luxury became the Luxe, and the Premium became the Essential. The Sport trim level managed to keep its name.

The refreshes can mostly be seen in the top-tier Essential model with the addition of a few deluxe packages. The Navigation package included INFINITI InTouch services and apps, satellite weather and traffic reports, front and back parking sensors, and, of course, a navigation system. The LED package added LED ambient lighting to the cabin to set the mood and LED headlights for optimized visibility.

The addition of the Technology/ProAssist package is the one to look for when you’re searching for a used INFINITI QX30. This safety suite adds blindspot monitoring, lane departure warning, a 360-degree camera system, emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, park assist, and automatic high beams. If the model you are looking at is an Essential and comes with real wood trim and a suede headliner, that means that it is equipped with the Dark Wood package. If the cabin is covered in white leather with red accents and contrasting stitching, that’s the Gallery White Theme package.

The Sporty trim level comes standard with the Navigation and Technology packages. You might also find one that has the Sport Leather package, which includes the LED package, heated leather seats, a synthetic suede headliner, and footwell lighting.

  • 2019

A grey 2019 INFINITI QX30 is parked in front of a painted blue colored wall near Cincinnati, OH.

The newest used INFINITI QX30 is the 2019 model. The most notable change in this version is that forward collision warning is standard on all trim levels. Dual-zone climate control has also been added to the base model, Pure. As far as performance goes, all of the specs and mechanics remain the same. Why fix what isn’t broken?

As for the Luxe model, it comes with a panoramic sunroof for you to enjoy a cool autumn breeze before the weather snaps off cold. There is also a rear-seat pass-through that makes configuring the cargo area a little different.

The premium Essential version has always had rain-sensing wipers that come in handy on inclement weather days, but the 2019 model takes that a step further. Heated washer nozzles have been added for cleaning the windshield during the winter months. This convenient add-on ensures that you will be able to see out of your windshield all year long.

The Luxe and Essential models might also have the upgraded Navigation package, which includes everything in the 2018 Navigation package plus the addition of a surround-view camera. This gives you eyes all around your vehicle and can go a long way in preventing dings and fender benders. The ProAssist package may also be included on either of these two trims. It has a slew of safety features, including automatic high beams, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and the newer self-parking system.

The 2019 INFINITI QX30 Sport is the cream of the crop. It comes with everything previously mentioned as well as race car-inspired aluminum pedals. If you find one that is all blacked out with purple interior accents, that’s the City Black package.

Whichever pre-owned INFINITI QX30 model you decide to go with, you will be behind the wheel of a sleek, luxurious ride.
