Car Air Filter Replacement

Here at McCluskey Chevrolet, we want to ensure you have a great experience every time you get behind the wheel. Step one is getting a quality vehicle with a comfortable interior—but don’t stop there. Come by our certified service department to get the maintenance you need to keep your car in great shape for years to come. Regular tire rotations keep your ride smooth, and a multi-point vehicle inspection will pinpoint problems so we can fix them before they produce their telltale sounds and vibrations.

As for the interior, the most important thing is your air quality. Whether you’re driving through the smog of the big city or cruising along a dusty country road, there are plenty of contaminants in the air that would be better left outside of your cabin—especially during allergy season! With a car air filter replacement, you can keep your vehicle’s climate control system running like a dream, providing you and your passengers with clean air no matter where you go.

What Does the Air Filter Do?

When you turn on your air conditioning or heat, you want the air that comes through to be nice and clean. Your vehicle’s cabin air filter makes that happen, trapping detritus like pollen, dust, and exhaust gas so that it won’t get inside and bother you. Everyone can breathe easier when the air is fresh and clean, but it’s especially important for drivers or passengers—young and old—who have asthma or other respiratory conditions. Filters can also trap malicious particles like bacteria and prevent bad smells from ruining your joyride.

On top of creating good conditions for the humans on board, filters also protect the inner workings of your vehicle. Without them, the climate control system could pull things like leaves and bugs into the HVAC system. This debris can cause problems that are costly to fix, and keeping a fresh filter on hand is an easy and affordable way to avoid them. However, note that because air filters are made of delicate materials and capture such repulsive particles, cleaning and replacing old filters on your own is not recommended.

Signs It’s Time for a New Air Filter

Getting a fresh air filter is the best way to keep your HVAC system running like clockwork—but how often should your air filter be changed out? Every vehicle is different, so you should check your owner’s manual to see exactly how often a filter change is recommended for your model. If you no longer have your manual, we’d be happy to look it up for you.

Generally, it’s recommended that you replace your filter every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. However, if you often drive in areas with a lot of airborne contamination, then you might want to get your filter changed more often than the manufacturer’s recommendation. Regardless of what your odometer says, you should bring your vehicle into our service department for an inspection of you notice any of the following problems, which could indicate the need for a filter change: weak airflow through the climate control system, even when the fan on a high setting; whistling noises or loud sounds coming from the climate control vents; bad smells in the cabin, especially musty odors or mildew.

Even if you never hit a pothole, get in a fender-bender, or misjudge the placement of a curb, you’ll need to get some amount of regular maintenance done to keep your vehicle roadworthy. Motor oil and brake fluid need to be changed out to keep vital components running smoothly, tires need to be rotated regularly to keep you on the straight and narrow, and components like brake pads, wiper blades, and air filters need to be replaced when they reach the end of their lifespan. We can take care of all the basics at a reasonable price and at a time that works for you.

Of course, we go beyond the basics, too. If you have any concerns about your brake system, we can provide you with service or replacement parts so that you can stay safe on the road. We can also help you with any battery trouble you may run into; not only does a vehicle’s battery empower electric components in the cabin, but it’s also crucial in starting the engine.
