There is a lot to be impressed by with the Chevy Volt model, with the 2014 figures showing an EPA estimated 38 miles of electric range, and 98 MPGe in EV mode. That is enough to make even the grumpiest of commuters happy, and it is no secret as to why the Volt is so popular among consumers. So what exactly is causing the 2015 Chevy Volt to get an increase in range? The answer lies under the engine, in the newly designed battery pack.

New Battery Pack = More Miles on the Road

General Motors has referred to the updated battery pack as “an engineering change in the battery cell.” So what exactly does that mean? Well, the larger battery means that Volt owners will see a slight increase in their EV range. So how slight is slight, exactly? General Motors and the EPA will not change the official ratings, but report that customers will see about a two mile increase in their overall EV range. For those of you who were hoping for a more drastic change, you can hold your breath because real change is coming to the 2016 Volt.

The 2016 Volt is slated for a complete redesign, and many fans of the small hybrid sedan are holding out for that redesign before jumping in and purchasing a 2015 version. Rest assured, no matter if you buy the 2015 Volt, or hold out for the 2016, each one will benefit its driver in a different way.
