The 2016 Corvette Z06 is a Track-Tested Supercar

January 13th, 2016 by

The Corvette has been around for years as one of the best performance cars on the market, and the 2016 Chevy Corvette Z06 is living up to that legacy. The Z06 is officially the fastest Corvette that’s ever been produced, and it proved itself on the track. Not only did it prove itself on the track; the 2016 Z06 was born there. Which means everything about this new Corvette has been bred for performance.

The design, materials, and engine in the Z06 are all state-of-the-art, and all contribute to making this Corvette Z06 a true world-class supercar.

Performance Expected From a Supercar

The 2016 Corvette Z06 is powered by a rip-roaring LT4 supercharged 6.2-liter aluminum V8 that puts out a staggering amount of horsepower and torque. The Z06 dominates the track and road with its 650 horsepower, and get’s plenty of tire-squealing action with just as much pound-feet torque. This supercharged engine has Direct Injection, Continuously Variable Valve Timing, and Active Fuel Management, and can be paired with either an automatic or a manual transmission.

The state-of-the-art components in the engine work together with the transmission, and come together to create powerfully efficient performance that’s expected from a modern world-class supercar.

Transmission

Even while it provides modern supercar performance, the Z06 sticks to its roots with a 7-speed manual transmission. The 7-speed manual comes with Active Rev Matching, which enhances your driving by providing you with a perfect heel-toe shifting experience. Don’t want to deal with a stick? That’s fine, the automatics in most performance cars are just as good, if not better, now and days thanks to modern engineering.

The 8-speed automatic provides that silky-smooth experience that automatic transmissions are famed for, while paddle-shift technology gives you acute and quick shifts for a little extra oomph. Also, the paddle-shift technology comes with a manual mode feature for track driving.

Fuel Economy

The Z06 gets some stellar fuel economy numbers for a supercar; up to 15 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. Those numbers are the same as most of your standard trucks on the 2016 market, which means using this as a daily driver will net you the same fuel economy as a truck with a similar engine.

0-60 Times

However, this is a performance oriented car. So I highly doubt you are that interested in the fuel economy. So, let’s talk a little about it’s 0-60 times. The Z06 equipped with the manual transmission can clock in at 3.2 seconds going from 0-60 mph. The automatic is even faster, and clocks in at just under 3 seconds.

These are the fastest 0-60 runs ever recorded for a Corvette, and the 2016 Z06 is setting the new pace for supercar performance; and it’s setting it with some mind-boggling numbers.

Designing Victory

The 2016 Z06 couldn’t have become the fastest Corvette in history on the engine alone, no car could do that. The engineering behind the design has a lot to do with the performance of a car, and the Z06 was designed to be as lightweight and aerodynamic as possible. Even though the Z06 design is based on the 2016 Stingray, there are still a few features that have been tweaked to improve overall performance.

The Z06 has wider wheels and tires than the Stingray, which provides much better grip and traction on the track. The vents are also larger, and provide a much-needed increase of cool air taken in. The cool air needed for the engine, transmission, and differential, and ensures they will not overheat when pounding the Z06 down the track. Finally, the front and rear of the Z06 have been slightly widened, which provides a more aggressive looking stance than the Stingray; and better handling.

To top it all off, the frame of the Z06 is made of a lightweight aluminum alloy to provide better performance, handling, and increased fuel economy.

A World-Class Supercar

It’s clear to see how the 2016 Corvette Z06 can be considered a World-Class supercar: with an engine that puts out earth-shattering horsepower and torque, the latest and greatest transmission technology, and a design that’s both handsome and enhances performance.

This Corvette Z06 officially becomes the fastest Corvette ever produced, for now.
