There’s something inherently spectacular about driving around town in a pickup truck. Turning heads everywhere you go, the new 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 makes quite the first impression. At McCluskey Chevy, we especially love the Silverado since it is reliable, powerful, and every year it is packed to the brim with groundbreaking features that puts other trucks to shame. In this informative article, we will go over one of our favorite Silverado 1500 trims, the popular LT Trail Boss.

Power and Performance

What makes the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 so special is that it is available with five different powertrains depending on which trim level you get. The LT Trail Boss model is equipped with a robust 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine that generates 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Paired with dynamic fuel management technology, start-stop technology, 4WD, and either an 8 or 10-speed automatic transmission, this powertrain gets about 18 MPG combined (16 city/21 highway). It also has the ability to tow up to 9,500 pounds without breaking a sweat.

Performance features include hill descent control, electronic power steering, stability control, and protective skid plates. That means you can descend down steep slopes carefully and maintain full control over the vehicle. If you need to travel over rocky terrain, the skid plates will protect the underbelly of the truck from any potential damage.

Safety Features

The 2020 chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss comes standard with six airbags for protection in the event of an accident. Daytime running lamps ensure that you have optimal visibility at all times of the day, and the rearview camera allows you to monitor what’s behind the truck while you are reversing. This safety aid is a great help for avoiding fender benders or running over a kid’s bike. The tire pressure monitoring system will alert you when the pressure needs to be tweaked inside the tires, and the hitch guidance system uses the rearview camera to assist with hooking up a trailer. You can also check on the status of your trailer while driving with this handy feature. OnStar Services and the Teen Driver system are also included in this model.

Available features include a bed view camera, front/rear park assist, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer tire pressure and temperature sensors, an HD rearview camera, and hitch guidance with hitch view. All of these features can be added to improve your peace of mind while on the roads.

Interior Features

Slipping behind the wheel of a 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss model is an experience all on its own. It begins with keyless ignition/entry, full power accessories, and cloth upholstery. The 40/20/40 split-bench front seat is manually-adjustable 4-ways and comes with under-seat storage. Able to seat three, the seatbacks recline, and the center seat back can be folded down to double as a center armrest. Two 12-volt auxiliary power outlets are located throughout the cabin. One is in the front, and the other in is the back.

The driver information center is displayed on a 4.2-inch screen, and the Chevrolet Infotainment 2 interface is displayed on an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen. This voice-activated system operates with Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wifi hotspot. You can make calls or send text messages hands-free, stream your personal playlist through the 6-speaker stereo, and navigate through your favorite apps easily.

Assist handles are provided to help kids, and elderly passengers get inside this large vehicle, and a compass is also included inside the cabin. The rear bench seat has 60/40 split-folding capabilities, and the carpeted floors are protected by all-weather floor mats. You don’t have to worry about dirt or mud destroying your carpet. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and can be adjusted manually via the tilt-only feature. Other technological advancements include the rear seat reminder, remote start, cruise control, automatic climate control, and USB ports.

Exterior Features

Rolling on 18-inch aluminum wheels painted in high gloss black for a sleek exterior look, the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss is quite a beauty. It comes standard with mud terrain Goodyear tires that can handle whatever you throw at them. Also featuring a 17-inch Blackwall spare tire, you will be able to address the issue of a flat tire if the need should arise.

As for exterior style, the grille features the iconic bowtie emblem in black, and the door handles and front/back bumpers are all done in the vehicle’s body color. The truck bed features 12 fixed tie-downs to secure any cargo and LED lighting so that you can see what’s in the back whenever you want. The CornerStep rear bumper has been included as well to help with getting in and out of the truck. Power heated side mirrors can be easily adjusted, and deep-tinted glass prevents passersby from peeking inside the cabin. The headlights, taillamps, and fog lights are all LED for enhanced visibility, and two front-frame mounted red recovery hooks are also provided.

Off-Roading Enhancements

The LT Trail Boss model has been raised by 2-inches due to the Z71 Suspension factory lift. This lift kit adds monotube shocks for a smoother ride experience over rough terrain. You can tackle rocky trails with ease due to the added ground clearance as well.

If you enjoy camping, you’ll love the Trailering package that comes standard on this version of the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500. Adding a trailer hitch, platform, hitch guidance, a 2-inch hitch receiver, 4-pin and 7-pin connectors, a 7-wire electrical harness, and a 7-pin sealed connector, you can easily hook up your trailer and hook its lights and brakes to your truck.

Dimensions

Even though this is a light-duty truck, that does not mean that it is little. Seating six passengers comfortably, it’s a great choice for crews and families. The overall length is about 231.7-inches, and the wheelbase is measured at 147.53-inches. The width is 81.24-inches without the exterior side mirrors, and the truck stands at about 78.35-inches in height.

In the front, the headroom is measured at 43.03-inches, the legroom is 44.53-inches, the shoulder room is 66.02-inches, and the hip room is 61.18-inches.

Moving to the back, passengers will have 40.12-inches of headroom, 43.4-inches of legroom, 65.16-inches of shoulder room, and about 60.24-inches of hip room.

To put this into perspective, let’s look at Chevy’s most popular sedan, the Impala. Front row passengers have about 45.8-inches of legroom in the Impala, which is just a little more than the LT Trail Boss. But, rear passengers will only have about 39.8-inches, which is a significant drop in space from the LT Trail Boss. And while this comparison is like comparing apples to oranges, it still goes to show you that a popular commuter car that many four or five-member families own provides less interior space than the Silverado.
