A red 2021 Chevy Tahoe is driving on a highway near Cincinnati, OH, at night.

We recently got our first look at the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, and while we don’t have the full picture about everything this Chevy SUV will offer, we know enough to get a sense of what’s in store. So far, from what we’ve seen, we are more than excited and we’re ready for the Tahoe to roll onto our lot and start making waves. Bigger than before, with more room inside for passengers and cargo, and a range of incredible new features, the fifth generation of the Tahoe is going to start with a bang.

What has us so excited about this Chevy SUV? Well, let’s take a look at some of the features and details Chevrolet has announced so far. Just remember that there is certainly more to come, especially when it comes to specific details, so we’re only going to have more and more to get ramped up about. But, for now, here’s what we know and what we’ve seen that has us so ready to take a drive in the all-new, updated Tahoe.

#1 – New Trim Options

We love trim levels and options on vehicles. That might seem like kind of a weird statement, but hear us out for a moment. Trims represent something fantastic about modern vehicles: options and customization. The more trims available on a vehicle, the more options and freedom you have to get something that is just right for what you need.

With the 2021 Tahoe, Chevy is doubling the number of trims that you can choose from with this vehicle. Think about that for a moment – not just adding one for good measure, but doubling the number available from three to six. Keep in mind that the Tahoe is already one of the most popular and best selling full-size SUVs on the road, so it’s not like Chevy needs to do this. They just know that the more trims available, the easier it is for you to get the perfect Chevy SUV for your needs.

The current three trims, which are the LS, LT, and the Premier, will still be available for you. In addition to them, the RST, which was previously a special edition, will now be its own full-fledged trim, and the available off-road package is being improved and upgraded into its own Z71 dedicated off-road trim. Finally, the Premier will no longer be the highest trim level available, as the Tahoe will get a High Country model for the ultimate level of luxury and sophistication in a Chevy SUV.

#2 – The Diesel Engine

At the moment, you can choose from two different engines, which will still be available on the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, but a third option will be joining them. For most trims, the standard engine will be the 5.3L V8 that offers up to 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The High Country will come with a 6.2L V8 engine that can provide up to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque for truly incredible power and performance. These engines will come with dynamic fuel management and automatic start-stop to help boost their fuel economy and overall efficiency.

The big news, however, is that a Duramax 3.0L I-6 Turbodiesel engine will be available on the 2021 Tahoe. That makes this Chevy SUV the only full-size model on the market in the US that will have a diesel engine available. The Turbodiesel offers up to 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, and is expected to offer terrific fuel economy, though EPA estimates are not yet available. Although a hybrid option will not be available right away, word from Chevrolet is that the design would allow for it in the future if there is a clear interest in a hybrid Tahoe. Rest assured, we’re interested!

#3 – A More Spacious Interior

Although not the largest Chevy SUV available – that is still the Suburban – the 2021 Tahoe is getting bigger, and that will translate into more room inside. The overall length of the Tahoe is increasing by just over 6 inches for the fifth generation. While that might not sound like much, what it translates into is a 40% increase in third-row legroom and a 66% increase in cargo room behind the third row. That is a tremendous amount of additional space for your passengers or for storing items in your vehicle.

#4 – Incredible Tech Features

With new trims and features coming in this generation of one of our favorite Chevy SUVs, you would probably expect some new tech options and features. And you would be correct. The 2021 Tahoe will have some fantastic available features, including a new 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display that is standard in all models. You will also be able to get a digital gauge cluster and even a 15-inch color head-up display so you can keep your eyes on the road at all times.

If you have passengers in the second row a lot, especially kids, then they are sure to get excited about the available 12-inch entertainment displays. That’s right, we said displays – two of them will be available for the rear seat media system, so there won’t be any more fighting over what to watch. Everyone’s happy and quiet, which sounds like a good thing to us.

Other great interior features will include heated seats, both in the front and second row, as well as easy-to-use climate controls and numerous USB ports and power outlets for all of your devices. An independent rear suspension and available air suspension will ensure a truly smooth and dynamic ride that is responsive and comfortable in all sorts of conditions.

#5 – Great Safety Options

We’re always excited about safety technology here at McCluskey Chevrolet, especially when it comes to great features on a fantastic Chevy SUV. While safety features might not be as glamorous or attractive as power and performance numbers, they are the most important thing on any vehicle. Speed and towing power are great, but if a vehicle can’t help keep you safe, then nothing else really matters.

The 2021 Tahoe will feature great standard safety features, including automatic emergency braking, automatic headlight control, and more. Nine different camera views will be available to help with greater overall visibility, especially when towing something, and improve safety in general.

These additional cameras will also help with parking, so even if you are not interested in towing anything, the extra safety and security for you when you’re behind the wheel will still come in handy.

Additional safety features like rear pedestrian alert, front and rear park assist, and a forward collision alert are all expected. Some of these features are sure to depend on what trim level you look at, but with double the trims available, you should be able to choose one that is perfect for you quite easily. Although we do not yet know pricing details on this new and improved Chevy SUV, we expect it to be competitive with similar models on the market, and the improved trim flexibility will make it easier to find a model that fits into your budget.

The 2021 Tahoe is expected to go on sale sometime in the middle of 2020. If you are interested in everything it has to offer, and are as excited as we are, then come visit us at McCluskey Chevrolet in Cincinnati, OH, to find out more.
