6 Truly Awesome Custom Chevy Silverados
Few trucks excite us as much as the 2016 Chevy Silverado. It’s a mean, lean, powerful working machine with enough power to get even the toughest jobs done right – and doesn’t sacrifice an ounce of style along the way.
The 2016 Silverado’s standard 4.3L 6-cylinder engine is impressive enough, capable of towing up to 7600 lbs with 285 horsepower and a best-in-class 305 lb/ft of torque. Add in the optional 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine, capable of a best-in-class 23 miles per gallon highway, or the 6.3L V8 EcoTec3 engine capable of a best-in-class 12,000 lbs of towing capacity and you have a serious truck that can beat out its competitors, no problem.
That’s why we’re so excited about these amazing special edition Silverados. Without sacrificing the impressive, muscular steel sculpted body and high-strength working power, Chevy has cooked up some seriously impressive customizations to an already highly-respected truck, and winner of the Highest Ranked Large Light Duty Pickup in Initial Quality by J.D. Power in 2015. These six beauties are a testament to the impressive attention to detail Chevy puts into designing its truck, without giving up even one iota of pure power in the process.
The Rally Editions
The first two are both iterations of the Silverado Rally Edition. Inspired by the style typically given to motorsport trucks, Chevy has infused all of that rough attitude into the sleek and sophisticated design of the Silverado Double Cab and Crew Cab LT models. With these customizations, the Rally Editions are sure to draw attention on the road.
First up is the Rally Edition 1, which delivers a performance-centered driving experience while focusing on unmatched style. A body-colored grille and black bowtie badge give the Rally Edition 1 an intimidating head-on look, while gloss-black door handles and mirror caps make sure that everybody knows this is no ordinary Silverado. Add the black rear decals and you might just think this edition belongs on the racetrack rather than in your driveway.
The Rally Edition 2 only adds to the impressive appearance with a black-painted grille surround, 22-inch 6-spoke black wheels, and 4-inch round black tubular assist steps. Plus, this edition features notable improvements inside and under the hood. Boasting a driver 10-way power seat adjuster, dual-zone climate control, Chevy’s MyLink 8-inch diagonal audio system for ultimate sonic luxury, a Rear-Vision camera and window defroster, and a 110-volt power outlet, this edition guarantees you a ride in total connected comfort to go along with that sweet style. Plus, a remote starter and a Trailering Package with locking rear differential and fog lamps mean this tech-savvy beauty is no joke when it comes to being a truly modern truck.
The Sport Editions
We also loved the Silverado Custom Sport Edition. This edition is a bit more customizable, available exclusively in the Crew Cab and Double Cab models in Black, Summit White (Double Cab Only), or White Diamond Tricoat (Crew Cab only). A body-colored grille surround and body-colored front and rear bumpers give this model that “one-solid-piece” look while chrome accents like special chrome grille inserts and chrome miror caps add a touch of class to this impressive truck.
Rear Park Assist gives the Custom Sport Edition an added bit of maneuverability on the road while a standard spray-in bed liner and 20-inch chrome wheels give this edition the durability it needs to get the job done and look good doing it.
If the Custom Sport Edition was created to offer the best available customizations on the standard Silverado, then the Custom Sport Edition Plus does the same for the Silverado’s impressive LTZ Z71 off-road package. That means all of this trucks customizations come on top of everything already standard in the LTZ Z71 model, including finely-tined Rancho shocks, skid plates and an automatic locking rear differential, plus its powerful standard 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine.
What makes the Custom Sport Edition Plus so special is a litany of amenities and improvements, including 6-inch chrome assist steps, 22-inch, 6-spoke black wheels, black bowtie badges on the front and back, a polished exhaust tip, and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel with built-in audio and cruise controls. A soft roll-up Tonneau cover protects the cab from weather damage as well.
The Custom Sport Edition Plus is more tech-friendly than its little brother as well, boasting a Front Park Assist to compliment the LTZ Z71’s standard Rear Park Assist to give the driver front and back camera coverage. This custom edition’s Driver Alert Package includes Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Safety Alert Seat technology as well for added driver security. Cargo box LED lighting, integrated trailer brake controller and power-adjustable pedals only add to the ease of accessibility for the driver of this impressive custom build.
The Blackout and Midnight Editions
Next up is the Black Out Edition, perfect for the night driver or caped crusader looking for a powerful ride that’s as stealthy as it is sleek. The name pretty much says it all – this truck is completely blacked out, with a fully black finish, black bowtie badges, tinted rear windows, an all-black grille and 20-inch black painted wheels. This edition, produced in limited availability, is available in only the Regular and Double Cab models and features all of the standard power and luxuries of those regular Silverado models. This model offers a firm rebellion from the usually-conspicuous Silverado design to provide a sleek, custom finish to an already excellent truck.
Finally, the amazing and dynamic Midnight Edition, available exclusively on the Crew and Double Cab models with the always-impressive Z71 off-road package. This special edition maintains its edgy attitude through its intimidating blacked-out style, with a black grille, black front and rear bumpers, black bowtie badges on the back and front, black door handles, and black rims. Drive it at night, and you just might set a new standard for sleek stealth – if, that is, your Midnight Edition isn’t already turning heads as it glides by.
The Midnight Edition’s aggressive off-road Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires don’t only perfectly match the blacked-out style but also give this edition impressive off-road capabilities while the standard spray-in bed liner ensures this truck can take even the toughest loads, no problem. In an impressive combination of form and function, the Midnight Edition Silverado is easily one of the most impressive. And, since Chevy only made 5000 of these babies, seeing one on the road – or, better yet, getting to drive one yourself – is an extra special exclusive treat.
These are the best Silverado Special Editions we’ve ever seen. With each type of special edition offered in what is basically two-tiered customization levels, pretty much everybody who wants a custom Silverado can find the right one. And since each comes with the standard tech available on every Silverado – including Chevy MyLink, available 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity, and six months of standard On-Star assistance, these trucks are all starting off at an already impressive place.
If these special editions are exactly what you’re looking for – and even if they’re not – take out word for it, the Silverado is an excellent truck.
