Chevrolet Releases Teaser Video for New Malibu

March 11th, 2015 by

Fans of the Malibu should look forward to seeing big changes at Chevy dealers in Cincinnati and around the country when the new model is released later this year. Chevrolet has said that it took a “blank slate” approach to designing the 2016 Malibu, and now it is teasing those changes in a new advertisement.

In the short video, the new Malibu is described as “Battle Tested,” and it is put through its paces in extreme climates and over extreme road conditions. It is driven through -13-degree weather in northern Canada, as well as 107-degree weather in Arizona. It is driven over pot holes, up steep hills, through twists and turns, and more.

Chevrolet said that the new Malibu will be driven through more than 1.5 million miles of open roads and test environments to make sure that it can deliver the performance it promises.

Of course, the Malibu is cloaked throughout the video. It is shrouded in a leather cover, and the exterior that shows around the edges in painted in a black-and-white swirl. The only thing viewers can tell for sure is that the new Malibu has a sloping roof line and shorter overhangs.

Chevy has said that the new Malibu will have a wheelbase that is four inches longer, providing slightly more leg room for passengers. The car will have a steel body that will weigh about 300 pounds less, which should enhance its performance and improve its fuel efficiency.

The 2016 Malibu is expected to be unveiled at the New York International Auto Show on April 1, and it will go on sale later in the year. More details are likely to be released just as the auto show opens. The press preview is on April 1 and 2, but the show opens to the public on April 3.

Sales of the Chevy Malibu have fallen in recent months, so the redesign for the new model should generate some buzz and reignite the brand.
