One of the things that critics have argued is missing from the Chevrolet Silverado, is innovation. Other brands seem to be on top of updating their trucks with the latest innovative technology, while Chevy has taken a back seat approach. Well, good news for Silverado fans. Chevrolet is no longer waiting around while competitor trucks blow past in the innovation department. General Motors has just announced that for the 2015 model year, the Chevrolet Silverado will be getting a boost in the transmission department.

That’s right, the 2015 Silverado will be available with its very own 8-speed automatic transmission. Better yet, the new transmission will be paired with Chevy’s Ecotec3 6.2-liter V8 engine. A pairing that will not only make history, but will also make drivers of the new pickup truck very, very happy. The new gearbox in the Silverado is roughly the same size as the Hydra-Matic 6L80six-speed transmission that is currently seen on the 2014 Silverado. The new Silverado complete with its new engine combination will be entering into production later this year, with the EPA estimated fuel economy following shortly after.

The current Silverado gets fourteen miles per gallon in the city, and twenty on the highway. Knowing what we know about basic engines, the 2015 Silverado should see an increase in those figures – making it even more of a promising adversary to pickup truck competition.
