Corvette C7.R Will Debut in Detroit and Race in the 2014 Season

The Detroit Auto Show is going to be a good one! First we got the confirmation that the debut of the 2015 Corvette Z06 would be at the Detroit Auto Show next month, that is going to be a hit for Ohio Chevrolet dealers, and now Chevrolet’s motorsports division has announced that the Corvette C7.R racecar will also be on display. Then the new C7.R will be making its racing debut in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship (USCC) racing series at the Rolex 24 at Daytona on January 25th.

Not much is known about the new Corvette racecar as of yet, but shots we taken of the prototype at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the Rolex Moterey Motorsports Reunion back in August. Chevy is also going to be celebrating a strong year in motorsports, with a total of 12 championships across the various racings series like IndyCar, Grand-Am, NASCAR, and the American Le Mans Series. Chevy racing has decided to give the Corvette race team’s “Jake” mascot a styling makeover, as well.

For those who aren’t too familiar with our friend Jake, it first appeared in the early 2000s when the Corvette Racing team was gaining some momentum. With all their victories, they began to rally behind the “take no prisoners” mentality, as well as a flaming skull logo to represent teir unrelenting drive for victories. It wasn’t until the C5.R had completed Le Mans that the logo was born. It had been sketched on a napkin and named in honor of Jake of the Blues Brothers.

“The best thing about Jake is that the logo transcends age and gender, uniting the Corvette Racing team and enthusiasts alike,” said Tom Peters, Director of Design, Performance Vehicles. “The new Jake logo reinforces the brand’s success on the track and signals the transition from the C6.R to the C7.R.”
