Corvette vs. Mustang

Okay, so you have decided that you are ready to own an iconic American-made muscle car. You have convinced yourselves, your loved ones, and are ready to dive in a make the big purchase. After doing a lot of research, and driving back and forth between Cincinnati Ford and Chevy dealers, you have narrowed it down to either a 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray, or a 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby.

Just when you think the hard part is over, you begin to wonder which one of these sports cars is the right match for your lifestyle. Aside from having different manufacturers, are they really that different? We are here to help make that decision a little easier for you, and have set up a comparison of the two 2014 makes/models. Check it out below, and make the decision for yourself!

Corvette vs. Mustang

  • Price. The 2014 Ford Shelby has a base price of $55,595, whereas the 2014 Corvette Stingray starts under at just $54,795. Considering that most sports car owners end up adding on additional features, the lower cost of the ‘Vette is a definite plus.
  • Performance. The Mustang will go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, while the Corvette takes slightly longer at 4.3 seconds. The Corvette features a seven-speed manual transmission, making everyday tasks like driving through parking lots in first gear more feasible. The Mustang fails in this department, making simple trips through the grocery store parking lot impossible without stalling.
  • Fuel Economy. The Stingray gets a combined EPA estimated fuel economy of 21 mpg, while the Shelby’s combined fuel economy only reaches 18.
  • Comfort. Both of these cars feel like what they are – a sports car. The interior is comfortable and what you would expect on both. As far as shifting comfort, the Shelby fails to deliver, with a stick that is heavy and will leave its driver sore after only a short drive from shifting. The Corvette’s shifter is lighter and is much more precise than the Mustang.

The Decision is Yours to Make

In our humble opinion, the Corvette Stingray offers drivers much more comfort, reliability, and “bang” for the price. If you are looking for a sports car that will last you for years to come, and will leave you some extra cash in your wallet, then the choice is simple: The 2014 Corvette Stingray.
