Pickup trucks are more popular than ever, with more types, sizes, and styles available to drivers than ever before. This boom in trucks is due in large part to automakers’ decision to include more standard comfort and convenience features in every model, making them an excellent choice for many family drivers. This is why so many of our customers are looking for trucks for sale near Montgomery.

This part of our nation is truly truck country and may account for the reason why the Chevy Silverado sold over 400,000 trucks in 2023 through the end of September. Still, if you are looking for a full-size truck, you need to decide which one is right for you. This comes down to a number of key factors, including the number of trim and style options, the choice of engines, towing, and hauling capability, the infotainment system, and, last but not least, price. We’d argue that the Silverado 1500 is going to be the best option for Montgomery drivers in need of a truck. But, to prove our point, we’re going to put the Silverado against its competitors in the full-size truck market.

#1 Versatility

In this case, versatility means how much a model can be configured to meet the needs of the driver. This is never more important than when you are talking about a full-size pickup truck.

Some Montgomery drivers are looking for a truck to use for work or to get big jobs done around their home. They don’t need all of the comfort and convenience accessories and are quite happy with a model that has only one row of seats. Other folks in Montgomery want to use their truck for their family. They need an extra row of seats that come in a crew cab or double cab, as well as all the bells and whistles in a higher trim level.

With nine different trims to choose from, as well as three cab styles and three different-sized beds, the 2024 Silverado 1500 is truly only matched by its GM “sibling,” the GMC Sierra 1500. The F-150 has eight trims available and three-bed sizes, each bed size falling short of the Silverado’s options.

In contrast, the 2024 Ram 1500, Nissan Titan, and Toyota Tundra only come with either a double cab or crew cab variant. None of these three offer a regular cab model. Moreover, of these three, only the Toyota Tundra offers three bed sizes. The Ram and Nissan give you only two options. Finally, the Ram 1500 has eight trim options, the Toyota Tundra has only seven trims, while Nissan only offers three trims on the Titan.

The Silverado 1500 has more trim options, larger bed options, and it remains affordable as you move up the trim lineup.

#2 Available Engine Options

Getting to choose your engine is another key factor in deciding on which full-size truck to choose. Chevy offers four different engines on the 2024 Silverado 1500:

  • 2.7L TurboMax I-4
  • 5.3L EcoTec3 V8
  • 6.2L EcoTec3 V8
  • 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I-6

The most fuel-efficient gas engine in this lineup is the 2.7L, which has an EPA-estimated combined rating of 19-20 MPG. The Duramax Turbo-Diesel is overall more efficient, with an EPA-estimated combined rating of 24-26 MPG. The maximum towing capacity of 13,300 lbs can be attained with either the 6.2L V8 or 3.0L diesel engine and the proper equipment.

The GMC Sierra 1500 has the same engine options but has limited towing capabilities. The Toyota Tundra features two engines and maxes out its towing capacity at 12,000 lbs. The 2024 Ram 1500 has three engine options, including a supercharged V8, but its towing abilities fall short at a maximum of 12,750 lbs. The supercharged V8 has a lot of horsepower and torque, but if you value utility, you will find it falls short of the Silverado 1500. The Ford F-150 has more engine options, but they will come at a higher price point with similar capabilities to the Silverado 1500.

At the end of the day, the Silverado 1500 allows you to choose the performance you want and stay within your budget.

#3 Hauling Capability

One reason so many Montgomery motorists choose to drive pickup trucks is because of their capabilities. An ability to tow large trailers and haul heavy loads leads many to decide on a pickup truck over another model type, like a full-size SUV. When it comes to towing and hauling, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 ranks among the most capable full-size trucks. We’ve already discussed towing, so let’s discuss payload and bed size.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 can haul up to 2,260 pounds, with the Ford F-150 edging this slightly with the ability to carry up to 2,445 pounds. Still, if you go inside the numbers, you will see that the Silverado 1500 is actually more capable based on its bed sizes. The short bed on the Chevy gives you 62.9 cu.ft. of space compared to only 52.8 cu.ft.) on the Ford. Jumping up to the next bed size, the Silverado offers 71.7 cu.ft. while the F-150 tops out at 62.3 cu.ft. Finally, the Silverado 1500’s long bed has space for up to 89.1 cu.ft. of cargo, significantly more than the 77.4 cu.ft. on the Ford F-150. The Silverado 1500 gives you more space every time.

As for the other trucks, the max payload capacities are as follows:

  • Nissan Titan: 1,710 lbs
  • Ram 1500: 2,300 lbs
  • Toyota Tundra: 1,940 lbs
  • GMC Sierra 1500: 2,240 lbs

The Chevy Silverado 1500 has the capacity to carry more than three of those trucks, only stopping short of the Ram 1500. However, the Ram 1500 has only two bed options and a maximum bed size of 6.4 feet/61.5 cu.ft., limiting the options you can fit in the bed.

#4 Onboard Entertainment

Each of these different full-size trucks we’ve discussed offers Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. However, the size of the screens these applications are used on changes between the models. In addition, there is one area that sets trucks apart from other vehicles when it comes to the infotainment system. Most now offer towing apps that make it easier to hitch a trailer and safer to drive when you are towing. For trucks, having a large infotainment screen is crucial for making hitching a trailer safer and easier. The larger the screen, the easier it will be to line up your truck to the trailer.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 has an available 13.4-inch touchscreen, the same as on the GMC Sierra 1500. This is larger than any other touchscreen available on a full-size truck today, other than the Toyota Tundra, which offers a 14-inch screen. The Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 have 12-inch screens available, while the Nissan Titan only has an available 9-inch screen. That extra coverage will be a big help when you are using the available trailering technology on your 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500.

#5 Affordable

In today’s economy, every dollar counts. If you can get a quality vehicle that is versatile, capable, and safe for less than comparable models from other brands, this will help you stay within your budget. Let’s take a look at the price range of the different trucks on the market from the starting/base trim to the top trim without additional packages/features.

  • 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500: $36,800 – $69,900[a]
  • 2024 Ford F-150: $33,835 – $76,775
  • 2024 Ram 1500: $39,420 – $95,735
  • 2024 GMC Sierra 1500: $46,700 – $82,500
  • 2024 Nissan Titan: $45,770 – $59,440
  • 2024 Toyota Tundra: $39,965 – $78,845

Put these numbers into context with what we’ve already talked about and you’ll see that the Silverado has more options, better capabilities, and comes at a lower price point.
