New Chevy Teen Driver Safety System

The magical age of 16 signals a revolution for teenagers as well as a perpetual feeling of terror for parents. Getting behind the wheel of the family sedan is a highly-anticipated moment for any teen and as parents, the worry is constantly surrounding your teen’s driving habits and overall safety once you hand over the keys. With parental sanity and teen safety in mind, Chevy engineers have announced the implementation of the new Chevy Teen Driver safety system in the new 2016 Chevy Malibu when it is released. This new safety feature will allow parents to set driving parameters and reinforce safe driving habits for young drivers.

Current Chevy models already possess an inherent level of safety that makes them a premier option for families across the country, but the Teen Driver safety feature takes it to the next level in a next-generation car. An exciting feature of the system is that Teen Driver sets parameters so that the audio system and paired devices will remain muted until front occupants have put on their seat belts. Audible and visual warnings will also go off if drivers surpass preset speeds.

Chevy Teen Driver is the first safety system in the industry with a built-in display that allows parents to monitor how the vehicle was recently driven. Integrated with Chevy MyLink, the system allows parents to enable a maximum speed that is specific to your teen driver’s key fob. This innovative new safety feature will allow parents to get a detailed account of: the distance that has been driven, maximum speed, how many over-speed warnings are issued, stability control events, antilock brake events and the number of times that active safety features like Forward Collision are alerted or activated.

For parents with young drivers, the new Chevy Teen Driver safety system will help you achieve peace of mind when your child strikes out on their own. It may not relieve all of the stress, but it can limit it significantly. While the current 2015 Chevy Malibu doesn’t possess the Teen Driver feature, it can be equipped with several other advanced safety features, so stop in and give it a go during a test drive at McCluskey Chevrolet.
