New 2016 Chevy Camaro Improves Handling Acceleration and Efficiency

Already a premier, high-performance option in the Chevy model lineup, the Chevy Camaro provides miles and miles of thrills when you get behind the wheel. With unprecedented levels of power, performance and agility expected with the release of the 2016 Chevy Camaro, Chevy officials have lent credence to the excitement with additional specs on the 2016 Camaro design and architecture. Armed with lighter, stronger architecture, the new 2016 Chevy Camaro improves handling, acceleration and efficiency, enhancing the overall performance of the next-generation Camaro.

Striving for significant increases in handling, acceleration and efficiency, Chevy engineers developed new framework for the Camaro that put a focus on reducing the weight of the new Chevy. When compared to the current 2015 Chevy Camaro, this mission was a success, subtracting more than 200 pounds from the curb weight of the Camaro design. The new architecture is one of the most mass-efficient designs ever contrived by General Motors.

The overall goal of lighter weight and improved performance was reached by making many cumulative changes to the Chevy Camaro design. A major asset in the construction of the all-new 2016 Chevy Camaro was aluminum. With strong, lightweight characteristics, aluminum was employed throughout the manufacturing process. One prime example, is the beam that supports the instrument panel, which is now manufactured from aluminum, saving nearly 10 pounds. Ten pounds may not seem like much, but when combined with other parts similarly changed, it adds up to improved handling, acceleration and efficiency.

Another major component of the new Chevy Camaro that saw a change was the suspension. Both front and rear suspension assemblies are now built from aluminum, and links on some models employ a lighter, stronger composite material. The end result of the new suspension architecture is an astonishing 21 percent lighter than current Camaro models, which employ steel assemblies.
