As one of the top Chevrolet dealers in Cincinnati, Ohio, McCluskey Chevrolet always strives to sell the best cars in the best quality. That includes making the sure all vehicles have a good set of tires on them with a lot of life left in them. However, you may want to upgrade the tires for improved performance, depending on the way you drive and where you plan to drive. With the winter season just around the corner (and snow already falling in some parts of the country), you may want to consider winter tires.

What are Winter Tires?

In the past, the only thing unique about winter tires was that they had a tread design that was intended to create more traction and control on the road. Now winter tires include a unique tread design and are manufactured with special compounds in the rubber that improve traction and performance by as much as 50 percent. The tires are designed to not just provide better handling through snow and ice but also in any cold weather conditions, including cold rain. The tires are more pliable, as well, which will reduce the risk of them cracking or leaking.

Do You Really Need Winter Tires?

While getting winter tires may just see like a good idea that you can take or leave, most experts actually consider them a necessity during the winter months. If you live anywhere that the temperature is routinely below 45 degrees in the winter — and in Ohio, it gets much lower than that on a regular basis — you need to get winter tires. If you live in Florida or parts of California, you can probably go without them. In most other parts of the country, you should plan to outfit your vehicle with a good set of winter tires each season.

McCluskey Chevrolet can help make recommendations for the right winter tires for your vehicle, as well as where to shop for your tires. As one of the top used car dealerships in Cincinnati, we have cultivated relationships with a variety of quality vendors whom we trust, and we can make a sound recommendation.

You wouldn’t go out without your coat this winter — don’t go out on the road without your winter tires.
