The DC Fast-Charging option recently became a more practical proposition when Chevy sealed a deal with Tesla to give Blazer EV drivers access to the EV brand’s 6,000-plus Supercharger stations across the country.

The forthcoming SS trim will offer an estimated range of 290 miles thanks to a larger 102-kWh battery. This might add a few minutes to the EV’s total charging time when compared to the 85-kWh battery, but Chevy has minimized the disparity by upping the SS’s DC Fast-Charging rate from 150 to 190 kW. All told, the Blazer EV has an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 102 MPGe in the city and 87 MPGe on the highway—certainly an improvement over the 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway provided by the gas-powered Blazer, which also offers less torque than its EV counterpart with a maximum 270 lb-ft.

Awaiting the SS

The Blazer EV’s LT or RS trim should provide more than enough power, but if you’re looking to really max out this Chevy’s performance, just wait for the debut of the range-topping SS trim. First introduced for the 2024 model year, the Blazer EV SS taps the true potential of this SUV’s dual-motor all-electric powertrain to provide a thrilling ride that boasts a zero-to-sixty time that could clock in as low as 3.4 seconds.

This speedy sprint is made possible thanks to the EV’s Wide Open Watts (WOW) Mode, which draws a little extra power from the Blazer’s battery and electric drive units to provide a satisfying bump in horsepower and torque. Sure, it might consume a little more energy and reduce the EV’s overall range, but it’s a small price to pay for the sort of excitement that WOW Mode can provide.

A sub-four-second zero-to-sixty time might not be the sort of high-speed resume a driver expects from a midsize crossover, which is part of what makes the SS such a unique offering. The performance-focused trim uses a 102-kWh battery to help get 595 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque.
