Psychedelic Tires of the Future
It’s easy to find what you’re looking for when it comes to cheap tires Cincinnati. With all the affordable options from a wealth of tire manufacturers, you’ve got plenty to choose.
But when it comes to the much buzzed about and rumored sci-fi tires of the future, we sit stuck in a holding pattern. However, recent news from the tire industry suggests that the wait might soon be over.
Though it might be a while before they are actually available for purchase, a few tire manufacturers have successfully created futuristic tire prototypes that are worth talking about because they seem to have successfully met some real world type tests.
Can you imagine a tire that never goes flat? Or one that doesn’t need air to support a vehicle?
These manufacturers did, and the results are out of this world.
Tires of the Future
Take, for example, the latest concept tire from South Korean tire manufacturer, Hankook.
Starting in 2013, Hankoook first started working on the non-pneumatic, or airless, tire. It seems their vision and hard work has paid off, because what was then a concept is now an tested and proven prototype.
Hankook has named it the iFlex.
What makes the iFlex so ingenious is that it is an airless tire designed to mount onto a traditional wheel rim. The iFlex relies on its own unique structure, rather than air pressure, to support the weight and action of a vehicle.
Tests involved speeds up to 80 miles per hour, with the tires driven in a slalom-like fashion, mimicking real on-road driving.
The results showed that these unconventional concept tires are able to match the performance of traditional, air-inflated tires.
But Hankook isn’t alone in its quest for non-pneumatic tire success.
Bridgestone Goes Airless
Bridgestone has paired with Resilient Technologies to create a tire that is puncture-proof, which has great potential when it comes to military grade equipment.
The spiral spoke design of this tire means that it does not have a surface that is susceptible to punctures from foreign objects or road debris, unlike a typical tire.
Other tire manufacturers are working to get their concept tires to the production line, which could mean that one day soon you will be able to purchase airless tires, as well as tires designed to transform and change shape in order to meet the demands of changing terrain.
The future no longer seems quite so distant now that tire manufacturers are successfully making strides to keep pace with the ever-evolving car industry.
