For Sale: The King of Cool’s 1952 Chevy Custom Pickup
For those of you who don’t know, the “King of Cool” was none other than Steve McQueen, an iconic actor on the silver screen during the 1960s and early 1970s.
But his iconography surpassed cinematic glitz and glamour because Steve McQueen was just as celebrated for his cache as a cool car guy. He may even be credited as the original car guy, or the one who made that identity cutting edge and, well…cool.
One gem from his treasured car collection is up for sale and though you won’t be able to purchase it at your local Chevy Dealer in Ohio, we still think it’s worth a look. Who knows? You might be able to find something similar to restore to its former glory.
Steve McQueen’s 1952 Chevy Custom Pickup Truck
Now, this isn’t any 1952 Chevy pickup up truck and not just because of who its owner was. No, this Chevy was an official 1952 Chevrolet Custom one-ton pickup truck. Not surprisingly, given McQueen’s love of cars – it’s in immaculate condition.
Listed as part of a one-week auction on eBay, McQueen’s Chevy truck starts at a bid of $50,000. According to the auctioneers, the truck comes with complete documentation, which means the original California title, which has Steve McQueen’s name on it, as well as its certificate of authenticity from the 19984 Steve McQueen Estate Sale in Las Vegas.
Equipped with an inline six-cylinder engine, the truck also sports a galvanized metal and aluminum camper attached to the bed.
Granted, you won’t take off on any high-speed car chases like McQueen did in Bullitt, but you’ll be driving the truck of the guy who did.
A part of the proceeds from the sale of the truck will be given to the Boys Republic, a school for teenaged boys with behavioral issues, located in Chino Hills, California. McQueen himself attended this school and subsequently supported its mission for the duration of his life.
Check it out online. This truck is the perfect blend of automotive and cinematic history.
If you do bid and win, you might find yourself cruising along to the current country smash hit, “White Lightning” by The Cadillac Three. Behind the wheel, you’ll be “Faster than McQueen, running them red lights.”
Okay, we can’t all be Steve McQueen – in fact, there was only one “King of Cool.”
But, we can all take advantage of the amazing deals and offers that Chevrolet offers on their vehicles all the time. Right now your local Chevy dealer has an impressive inventory of Chevy pickup trucks, from the Silverados, Colorados, and even commercial-grade trucks and vans to help you tackle your workload.
Take them for a test drive and make like McQueen as you “Find New Roads” in a Chevy pickup truck.
