What Separates the 2016 Chevy Cruze From the Competition

The 2016 Chevy Cruze is expected to be quite the hit when it’s released in the near future, and the brand is certainly counting on their family sedan to be successful. For this to be a possibility, Chevy has been looking for ways to separate themselves from some of the competitors of the Cruze, including the Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. The result? A number of unique features and specs.

Lighter and Longer

Incredibly, Chevy managed to cut down the car’s weight while also extending the length of the vehicle. The 2016 model will come in at nearly 250 pounds less than its predecessor, and the change has already had an effect on the fuel economy, where the Cruze is expected to deliver 40 miles per gallon on the highway. Speaking of fuel, the new 1.4-liter turbocharged engine is expected to produce 150 horsepower and 177 ft-lbs of torque.

Meanwhile, Chevy also managed to increase the size of the Cruze, increasing the wheelbase to 106.3 inches (the same size as the Mercedes CLA 250, as Phelan notes). While the nameplate had previously been commended for its truck room, an extra two inches is just a cherry on top.

Technology

If you end up purchasing a 2016 Cruze, you may be inclined to just stay in your vehicle forever. After all, the car includes both a 4G LTE wi-fi hotspot and a built-in Apple Carplay and Android Auto, which Phelan predicts will “be the two next big things for in-car connectivity.” This system accompanies a 7-inch touch screen, making for one of the best technological experiences in the car industry.

Safety

Perhaps the most important of the additions is the variety of safety features.  The car earned a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and that could be attributed to the number of high-tech amenities.

Among the features is a rear cross traffic alert (which lets you know of traffic that may have snuck up behind you), lane keep assist (which prevents you from unintentionally drifting into another lane), and a forward collision alert (which anticipates a potential accident).
