Low Tread

The tire tread must be a certain depth in order to give the tire the right traction while driving. Tires that

have low tread are more likely to slide around the road, especially in wet conditions.

Measure the tread using the tool specifically designed for it. If the tread has fallen to 1/16th of an inch of lower, it’s time to get new tires.

Presence of Bulges and Cracks

When a tire starts to deteriorate, the rubber may crack or bulge. Cracks typically appear on the side well of the tire, not on the area with the tread. Bulges or blisters can appear anywhere on the tire, and they will be quite easy to identify.

Any of these problems can lead to leaks or blowouts, causing a nuisance at best or a serious accident at worst.

Hearing Vibration or Flapping

If you hear any vibration or flapping while you are driving, that’s a sure sign that you need new tires. Vibration could be caused by a loss of pressure or by bulges. Flapping is usually caused by a piece of tire hitting the wheel well or the road as you drive.
