Six of Our Favorite Chevy Sedans to Buy Used

Chevy makes some of our favorite vehicles, and its selection of trucks and SUVs is among the best in the auto industry. Unfortunately, the market seems to have spoken when it comes to sedans, however, and so the current slate of new models from Chevy doesn’t include any of their ilk.

The good news is that, when looking for your next used Chevy for sale, you can still find excellent sedans and hatchbacks, since it wasn’t too long ago that quite a few of these cars were available. So if that’s something you’re interested in (or you’re just curious about what kinds of vehicles Chevy used to make but no longer has in production), then stick around and check out six great models that you can still find pre-owned.

Chevy Malibu: A Midsize American Icon

The most recent car discontinued by Chevy is the Malibu, which has been around so long that it is something of an institution in the American auto industry. With its midsize design and sleek styling, the Malibu has long been a fantastic example of how great engineering and sweeping lines can keep a sedan from being ordinary. Although other midsize cars like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry get a lot of attention, the Malibu kept up with them beautifully. It routinely offered excellent performance and impressive features inside and out at a very approachable price.

In recent years, Chevy had been adding plenty of excellent tech features and advanced safety systems like you’ll find on its other models, resulting in one of our favorite options for a daily driver to improve your commute. We’re going to miss this one a lot, but at least we’ll get to see great pre-owned Malibu models for many years to come.

Chevy Cruze: Fantastic Compact Design

For drivers looking for a car that’s smaller than the iconic Malibu, the Chevy Cruze had been a terrific option. As a compact car, the Cruze remains an excellent pick for anyone who prefers smaller vehicles; even compact SUVs can still feel quite large compared to a small sedan like this. The 2019 Cruze was the last of its name to be available new, but you’ll find a lot of them pre-owned from that year and those preceding it that are still in fantastic condition with plenty of miles left in them.

Power and performance might not be incredible with this car, but it’s a small sedan; something like the Camaro or Corvette is a better used model to look at if you want pulse-pounding performance. Still, the Cruze was highly regarded for its comfortable ride, surprisingly spacious design, and excellent features inside and out.

Chevy Impala: Spacious Interior, Great Drive

The 2019 model year wasn’t just the last one for the Cruze; it also marked the end of the run for the Chevy Impala, which retained a name first introduced back in the 1950s. Its lineage isn’t what we miss most, however, because its large and impressive design was what truly set this car apart and made it one of our favorites. The Impala is a full-size sedan, so if you’re shopping for a used car and want something larger than the Malibu, then this is the one to look for.

Its full-size body makes the Impala a fantastic choice if you have a family and want to get around in comfort each day, yet you are not interested in an SUV. Chevy’s engineers worked hard on it, and the Impala was praised for its excellent feel and handling on the road. Plus, used models have plenty of great features inside, including a very spacious trunk.

Chevy Sonic: Small, Sporty, and a Terrific Price

We’ll admit that this might be cheating when looking at cars since its hatchback design is pretty close to an SUV, but we don’t care because the Sonic was classified as a car. For quite a while, the Sonic was one of the most budget-friendly vehicles out there, and its status as a terrific subcompact car was hard to argue with. That small size can make it less-than-ideal for some drivers, especially if you have a family or know that you’ll have multiple passengers with you routinely.

But for a small vehicle that feels great as you zip along city streets, with no worries about finding a parking spot, the Chevy Sonic is an amazing choice. It came to an end with the 2020 model year, but a used Sonic is a fantastic pick even today if you’re looking for an affordable car.

Chevy Spark: An Incredible Budget-Friendly Car

As budget-friendly as the Sonic was, Chevy outdid itself with the design, engineering, and price of the Spark. This subcompact hatchback is undeniably too small for a lot of families, but it’s perfect for teens, singles, and anyone else who appreciates how fun a little vehicle like this can be to drive. That being said, the Spark’s true claim to fame was that it was often the most inexpensive car on the market, selling for less than $15k MSRP when offered as new, even for its final model year, in 2022.

With how expensive everything seems to be these days, we won’t lie: We really miss seeing this gorgeous design and having new models available at such a buyer-friendly price. Of course, that just means pre-owned Chevy Sparks are even more affordable today, so there’s still plenty to be said for this great little hatchback.

Chevy Volt: Plug-In Hybrid That’s Fun to Drive

Although Chevy’s modern lineup of incredible electric vehicles (EVs) gets a lot of attention, the brand has had plenty of other offerings available over the years. Case in point, the Chevy Volt was a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) designed to offer a fantastic driving experience, with excellent performance and outstanding fuel efficiency. We love PHEVs like this for how well they blend traditional gas-powered performance with many of the benefits you’ll find with all-electric models.

The Volt was one of the best PHEVs on the market, standing up beautifully against other popular models like the Toyota Prius Prime. Chevy ultimately decided the sales numbers just weren’t there, so the 2019 model year saw the last new Volt. (2019 really was a rough year for Chevy cars.) But if you’re interested in a small plug-in hybrid sedan that you can find pre-owned at a terrific price, then the Volt is definitely one to keep in mind.

Which Chevy Sedan Would You Prefer Most?

As you can see, the graveyard of Chevy sedans has grown quite a lot over the last six years, which is a real shame as far as we’re concerned. Still, Chevy’s decisions have generally been based on what sells, so we can’t fault it for which models it has discontinued. The upside to this, of course, is that you can still find many of these stylish and well-appointed sedans when looking at the used car lot.
