The Chevy Blazer Easily Edges Out the Ford Edge

When you’re looking for a midsize SUV, you have a ton of options available to you; after all, this is one of the most popular auto segments. That being said, there are some significant differences from one vehicle to another, and not all models will deliver the same experience or offer the same value. Looking at a Chevy Blazer for sale, you’ll immediately recognize how impressive its selection of engines, trims, features, options, and safety tech is. What’s even more impressive, however, is the way that it delivers all of this at a price of incredible value.

These points become more pronounced when you compare the remarkable Chevy Blazer to other models that might not deliver quite as much for your money. Looking at the 2024 Blazer compared to the Ford Edge, for example, reveals that while the Edge certainly has a lot to offer, it delivers it in a way that falls short of what the Chevy Blazer can do. Having more freedom to put together the vehicle you want, with terrific features inside and out, while also going easier on your budget simply can’t be beat. Interior Features

The Chevy Blazer has one of the most beautifully appointed and well-detailed interiors we’ve seen, which creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that you’ll look forward to driving each day. This is a midsize SUV with two rows, seating up to five, and everyone will have plenty of room to stretch out. The spacious interior is one of our favorite things about the Blazer, though Chevy has gone above and beyond to make sure you have plenty of great features. From the large 10.2-inch infotainment display that’s standard in every trim to the standard heated front seats with an eight-way driver’s seat, every Blazer gives you a lot to enjoy when you’re on the road.

With the Ford Edge, we find a lot of good features and options, too, but the higher starting price means we’d expect it to bring more. Much like the Blazer, the Edge is a midsize model with two rows of seats, though we prefer the overall style and design found inside Chevy’s model. The Edge has a nice infotainment display, as you’d expect, and a comparable sound system to the Blazer, but there’s nothing inside that fully justifies the higher price. We love being able to offer incredible vehicles to our customers that are also a great value so your budget stretches further, which is what the Chevy lineup allows us to do.

Exterior Styling

As much as we love the interior of the Chevy Blazer, the exterior is just as savvy and sleek, creating a vehicle that you’ll love seeing in your driveway. The swooping curves and elegant lines that give the Blazer’s exterior its shape are sophisticated and refined, drawing your eye from one end to the other in a way that speaks to its power and bold driving experience. This is further enhanced by great options like a two-tone black roof that pairs beautifully with its exterior colors. Looking at available colors like Radiant Red, Iridescent Pearl, or the new Riptide Blue Metallic truly makes the Blazer pop and come to life.

From the outside, the Ford Edge certainly looks fine, but we can’t help but feel like Ford’s designers could’ve gone further with it. Overall, it has a nice profile that looks just like what you’d expect from a midsize SUV, but something feels lacking. The lines aren’t quite as graceful as we’d expect from Ford since they have a long track record of making snazzy vehicles. There are plenty of good exterior colors available, but they don’t quite pop the same way the Chevy Blazer with its two-tone black roof does. When you add in the fact that the Edge doesn’t have any special editions with distinct looks (like how the Blazer has a Redline Edition and a Midnight/Sport Edition available), it feels even more lacking.

Performance Options

You have two engines available with both the Chevy Blazer and the Ford Edge, which is great, but your selection is a bit more limited with the Edge than we’d expect. Looking at the Blazer, you start off with a sporty turbocharged 2.0L engine, and there’s a 3.6L V6 available if you want boosted performance; both are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. You can choose either front- or all-wheel drive with both of these engines, giving you total freedom to get the kind of driving experience you want. While two of the four trim levels for the Blazer have a set engine, the other two trims let you pick which one you want.

The Ford Edge also has two engines available, but the offering for them is surprisingly restricted. There’s a standard 2.0L turbocharged engine, with a 2.7L V6 available for improved performance, which is great, though the standard engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the more powerful option comes with a seven-speed automatic. Both of these engines are only available with all-wheel drive, which is fine, but we prefer having the choice of the kind of drivetrain configuration we get; the Edge’s strict AWD lowers its fuel economy compared to the Chevy Blazer. What’s more, the available V6 engine is only offered on a single trim level for the Ford Edge, which is also the most expensive; that’s a lack of freedom that we find stifling and seems like a big miss from Ford.

A Price That Can’t Be Beat

Although we don’t always like to talk about price and budget when first looking at two SUVs like this, it is something that matters. Your budget greatly impacts your shopping experience and options, which is why it helps to have it in mind when looking at what you can get. Both of these SUVs have a lot of features and options in common with a lot of similar things on offer, and yet there’s a notable difference in their price.

Right now, the 2024 Blazer starts at just $35,400, which makes it an incredibly accessible option that gives you a lot for your money. By comparison, the 2024 Ford Edge starts at $38,465, which is not a terrible price but it’s obviously quite a bit more than the Blazer. That’s more than a $3,000 difference to start with, and as you look at the trim levels available for both vehicles, it’s ever likely you’ll get a lot more with the Blazer. Chevy lets you stretch your budget and get exactly what you want in your next vehicle, which is something that not every automaker manages.

Find the Chevy Blazer You’ve Been Looking For

In no way are we going to say the Ford Edge is an awful vehicle or poorly made; it’s clear that Ford knows what they’re doing, and the Edge is a fine piece of machinery. We simply find that the Chevy Blazer gives you a lot more for your money, with a sleeker design, superior features, more options, and an interior that you’ll love getting into day after day.
