The ‘Redline Special’ is Coming to a Chevy Dealer Near You
The very first Chicago Auto Show took place at the Chicago Coliseum back in 1901. It’s hard to believe that it has been well over a century since the first production of the world’s largest auto show took place, and while the stage may be in a different location than it was back in those early days, automotive brands both big and small are setting up this week to be a part of it all. Taking place February 11 through the 20 of 2017, attendees are expected to travel to the Windy City from all over the world. Because it is the largest and best attended auto show in the world, there is a higher level of expectation placed on the major automotive brands that participate in the show. If you want to know what will be appearing on the lot of your local Chevrolet dealership in the coming months and years, there is no better place to get a sneak peek than at the annual Chicago Auto Show.
Chevy: Go Big, or Go Home
As a Michigan-based car manufacturer, Chevrolet doesn’t have to travel very far in order to be in the middle of the Chicago Auto Show action. As a result, the bowtie brand shows up to Chicago in a big way, each and every year. From incredible concept car debuts, to new technological advances unveiled, to entire new vehicles released for the first time, Chevrolet certainly knows how to wow the Chicago crowd. They may not come right out and say that their auto show mantra in Chicago is to go big or go home, but they don’t really have to. As the adage goes – actions speak louder than words. With the 2017 Chicago Auto Show about to officially kick off, the first examples of this being put into practice are beginning to trickle down the rumor mill, and we have to admit, we are quite excited
New Redline Models on Tap for Chicago
One of the most talked about debuts in Chicago this week is Chevrolet’s new Redline Special-Edition trim, which is making its way into the lineup of several of their models. In fact, nine of the brand’s vehicles will receive the optional treatment, a point the brand plans to show off in the Windy City at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show.
Despite the big reveal planned by Chevrolet, Chicago won’t be the first place we have seen this Redline special edition trim. The all-inclusive treatment was given to select Chevy models for the 2015 SEMA show in Las Vegas, where it received a healthy dose of attention from industry insiders and consumers, alike. The U.S. vice president of Chevrolet, Brian Sweeney, recognized the importance that the annual SEMA show has on the future of the bowtie brand. In a recent interview, Sweeney said, “Redline is another example of Chevrolet bringing SEMA concepts to showrooms. The SEMA show has proven to be a great way to identify customization trends in the industry, and quickly apply those trends to our most popular Chevrolet models.”
When the Redline special edition trim made its worldwide debut in Vegas a few years back, people took notice – and Chevrolet took note of their attraction to the specially-equipped models. On February 11, 2017, buyers will get their first official taste of what the Redline special edition treatment will entail on actual model offerings. Featuring blacked-out wheels with “harsh” red accent marks, blacked-out nameplates, logos, and grilles – the Redline special edition trim will be the first of its kind to make its way into several of the brand’s models. Redline Camaro models will also include black hash marks above the front wheels, while the Redline Silverado and Colorado pickups will add matching red tow hooks in order to complete the exterior look.
Among the vehicles slated to receive the Redline Special Edition treatment, a few include the Traverse Premier, Cruze hatchback and sedan, and the Silverado Double Cab LT Z71.
Ahead of the 2017 Chicago Auto Show debut of this new trim option, Chevrolet has announced that the Redline Special Edition trim will first be available on the Silverado, prior to being made available on the other nameplates for 2017. The brand also noted that while interested buyers can order their Redline editions now, they won’t be made available until the latter part of 2017. Along with the non-committal delivery date, the brand is also remaining tight-lipped on what the Redline treatment will cost as an add-on to models in the lineup.
Check out the official Redline Roster of vehicles that will be offered in the coming year, and the exact date they are expected to be made available to buyers:
- 2017 Silverado 1500 – Available now on LT Z71 Double Cabs, and LTZ Z71 Crew Cabs with four-wheel drive.
- 2017 Colorado – Available in April of 2017 on LT Extended and Crew Cab models.
- 2017 Camaro – Available in April of 2017 on Convertible/Coupe RS and SS models.
- 2017 Cruze Sedan – Available in April of 2017 on LT models with the RS Appearance package.
- 2017 Cruze Hatch – Available in April of 2017 on LT with RS Appearance Package models.
- 2018 Traverse – Available in June of 2017 and will be available solely on the Premier model.
- 2018 Equinox – Available in October of 2017 on LT models only.
- 2018 Trax – Available in July of 2017, only on LT models.
- 2018 Malibu – Available in December of 2017 on LT trim level models.
As you can see, Chevrolet has a distinct plan for the release of each of its Redline special edition models. Once the rollout is complete, the Redline special edition trim option will be the largest of its kind to be offered by the bowtie brand. If you don’t see your favorite Chevy model listed as a recipient of the Redline special edition treatment, don’t worry quite yet. While there are no immediate plans to further expand this already-expansive offering, we believe it’s safe to assume that if the Redline series is successful, Chevy may end up offering it on more of its models in the future.
