If you are thinking about purchasing a new Chevy vehicle, then you may be wondering about the latest technology features. This is probably especially true if you haven’t upgraded your vehicle in the last five years or so. With so many advancements in infotainment, the latest lineup of models is brimming with state-of-the-art technology that is not as difficult to learn as it may seem. As one of the top Chevy dealers in Cincinnati, the experts here at McCluskey Chevy have put their heads together to come up with a handy Chevy car tech guide for your convenience.

The Chevrolet Infotainment System

There are many different levels of the latest Chevrolet Infotainment System. However, some features are standard across the board. These include a wide range of connectivity features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. These features allow you to connect your smartphone to your car for phone calls, navigation, music, and more. With Apple CarPlay, you can easily access iPhone features such as Maps, Messages, Music, and even the Phone. Communication with Siri is also available, and certain apps such as iTunes and Apple Music can be used while driving as well.

As for Android Auto, it offers the same type of support but for Android phones. You can access the phone, text messages, navigation, and music. If you use Google Maps with Android Auto, you can also access lane guidance, live traffic updates, and voice-guided navigation. Some of the most recent Chevy models even offer wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto so that you never even have to plug your phone in.

One additional feature that is unique to the Chevrolet Infotainment System is the In-Vehicle App selection. If you have limited storage space on your smartphone, you may not want to download a bunch of apps that can be used while driving. To skip over this, you can download an array of useful apps directly to the infotainment system. These include the MyChevrolet App, Marketplace, Spotify, Pandora, Fox Sports, USA Today, and even The Weather Channel. Also, please remember that a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is included with most newer Chevy models for internet on the go.

SiriusXM with 360L

Before we move on to the MyChevrolet App and other features, we want to discuss the satellite radio options. SiriusXM with 360L is an easy-to-use radio feature that enables you to completely personalize your stations. You can choose from over 200 channels, including comedy, news, sports, and talk shows. Oh, and did we mention that these are all ad-free channels? Plus, you can access thousands of hours of OnDemand shows at your leisure. If you are on the road a lot, we highly recommend finding a new Chevy car that has satellite radio.

MyChevrolet App

Want to gain total control over your Chevy vehicle without being inside of it? That’s where the MyChevrolet App comes into play. All you have to do is download this app to your smartphone. It is compatible with Apple and Android products. Let’s look at some of the functions you can use with your smartphone and this app!

The MyChevrolet App gives you remote access to your vehicle. This includes locking and unlocking, starting and turning off the engine, and even honking the horn. You can locate the vehicle on a map, set boundaries, share arrivals and destinations, and also check the status of your vehicle’s fuel, oil life, tire pressure, and so much more. There is even a voice assistant that will allow you to simply speak the commands. Please note that you will need a MyChevrolet skill for Amazon Alexa or a MyChevrolet action for Google Assistant.

Vehicle management services include scheduling maintenance ahead of time with our team here at McCluskey Chevrolet, accessing the Owner’s Manual digitally, and controlling your Wi-Fi data plan, name, and password. Furthermore, you will also gain access to owner resources such as the Chevy rewards program, which allows you to earn points for services. Other resources include Smart Driver, which gives you insights into your driving patterns, and How-To videos to help guide you through various steps covering how the vehicle operates.

If you have a Chevrolet truck or SUV, then you will also gain trailering benefits through the MyChevrolet App. You can calculate the combined weight of your trailer and cargo to ensure that you are within the towing limitations. You can even test the trailer lights to make sure that they are working properly before you embark on your journey.

Lastly, if you purchase an electric vehicle, the MyChevrolet App will provide you with Energy Assist. Using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, this feature will enable you to view your vehicle’s remaining range and nearby charging stations. You can even plot a route that is within your estimated driving range. This feature allows you to travel without worrying about running out of juice.

Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

Whether you prefer Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, both can be used with the MyChevrolet App to control your vehicle. You will need the MyChevrolet skill for Alexa or the MyChevrolet action for Google Assistant. Both features will allow you to use voice commands to lock or unlock your vehicle from your smartphone. These connected services can also be used to start or stop your engine, play music, and even dim the lights inside your house.

Marketplace

As we mentioned briefly, you can download Marketplace to the Chevrolet Infotainment System in order to gain access to its numerous functions. Once the download is complete, you can use it to order carry-out or delivery from select restaurants like IHOP, Applebee’s, and Domino’s. There are also over 4,000 locations that will allow you to reserve a table via Marketplace. You can find a parking spot with the help of ParkWhiz, and you can also book a hotel room via Priceline. As for filling the tank, you can activate the pump, pay, and earn rewards via Marketplace at participating Exxon, Mobil, and Shell gas stations. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Connected Navigation

Higher trim levels tend to come with an integrated navigation system. This means that you won’t have to access Maps on Apple CarPlay or Google Maps on Android Auto. With the Chevrolet navigation system, you will be able to search for destinations and plot the fastest route. You can even get real-time traffic updates to avoid rush hour or a traffic jam from an accident. Voice commands work with this system, or you can input the destination manually if you so choose. Either way, you will be on the right path to your desired detention in no time!
