The Top 3 Features for the 2017 Chevy Cruze Hatchback
With the success of the Cruze in the past, and the predictable success of this year’s new 2016 Chevy Cruze, it’s not surprising that Chevy decided to take their second most popular vehicle and create a hatchback variation. Introducing the 2017 Chevy Cruze Hatchback, a car that has all the attributes people love about the Cruze, but with even more storage space.
With a new design comes new changes and Chevy has made some great ones. From what we know about the 2017 Cruze hatchback, here are the top three attributes it’s sporting.
The Design
The design of the 2017 Chevy Cruze hatchback is one of the better ones I’ve seen. Simply put, it’s effective, handsome, sleek, and just overall well-built. The design starts with a hood and front-end that are similar to the current Premier trim on the Cruze. The front tires seem to be set in the same place, and it looks like some daytime running lights were added for some extra flair in the front. The most glaringly obvious design change – the actual hatchback – isn’t really that glaring at all.
In fact, it blends in perfectly, thanks to engineering ingenuity. Typically, hatchbacks look clunky and awkward, but this one doesn’t. Even the typical flat back-end of a hatchback isn’t present. Instead, drivers are presented with a curvy figure when it’s viewed from the side, and it has plenty of definition.
It’s shiny, slick, shapely, and boasts plenty of storage space. Honestly, there is nothing bad about this design. Huge props to Chevy for getting this right as it could have easily gone the wrong way.
Cargo Room
The cargo space for this little hatchback is bigger than you might expect, coming in at 47.2 cu.-ft., with the rear seats folded down. Considering the trunk volume of Chevy’s Malibu is 16.3 cu.-ft., I think the bow-tied brand was successful in creating ample room for a compact package.
That means the exceptionally efficient and zippy performance of a compact car, with cargo space that’s greater than a mid-size sedan.
Upgraded Chevrolet MyLink
By popular demand, Chevy introduced an upgraded MyLink system that now supports both Android and Apple CarPlay for this year, and that support is carrying over to the 2017 hatchback as well. This technology allows you to interact with maps, texts, music, and much more using the voice commands or the MyLink touchscreen. Powerful on-board 4G LTE Wi-Fi will also carry over, providing a more powerful connection than your smartphone.
While that’s all we know about the 2017 Cruze hatchback’s technology for now, I’m sure you will see many more of the current Cruze’s well-loved attributes revisited in this new iteration.
Price?
Since it was just recently announced, the price of the 2017 Cruze hatchback is still unknown. However, I don’t think it can be that much more expensive than the 2016 Cruze sedan. After all, the only difference is the hatchback design.
Then again, I’m not an automotive engineer, so I don’t know how much it actually cost to produce. I can only speculate. But what isn’t speculative is the hype that has been built up around what people do know about the Cruze hatchback: its handsome design, generous cargo room, and presence of an upgraded MyLink system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
