Mid-Sized Trucks

Mid-sized trucks are the smallest of the trucks offered in the United States. The term “mid-sized” is misleading, as it implies that there would be something below the middle. Those trucks that would truly have been considered compact in decades past have swelled and beefed up to the point that calling them compact would seem silly.

These trucks typically have more fuel-efficient engines that don’t exactly offer the brute strength of their larger brothers. They are great for personal use, even for everyday commuting. The 2019 Chevrolet Colorado fits this class designation. This truck gets a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine that gets 200 horsepower while getting up to 26 miles to the gallon on the highway. Some of the many features include a rear camera, Stabilitrak, and smartphone connectivity, all of which are standard. Even with all that it offers, it can still be had for well under $25,000. Trucks like this may not have all the power needed for a big job site, but they are great for everyday use, without breaking your piggy bank.

Full-Sized Trucks

This class has the most recognizable trucks in it, including the classic Chevy Silverado 1500. These trucks are more commonly used by the working man, as they have the larger towing and hauling capabilities. Furthermore, they also have slightly larger cargo beds. Anyone that uses a pickup truck for work knows the value that every available inch of available space back there can have.

Full-sized trucks have the ability to tow several thousand pounds when properly equipped. That includes having the right engine, configuration, and other attachments. This wheel adds more stability to the truck and allows the towing capacity to increase substantially. Additionally, these trucks have more powerful engines than the mid-sized trucks. They usually start off with a V6 engine and have multiple options, including a diesel engine. These engines routinely go north of 400 horsepower and comparable torque.

As far as the interiors go, these trucks are more likely to offer more safety and infotainment features. Since these trucks make up a larger part of the sales, they also are offered in many more trim levels. This allows the buyer to customize it as he sees fit. If the engine performance is more important than what is on the interior, that can be found around the base trim level. If this pickup truck is going to be more of an everyday vehicle, higher trim levels can accommodate more creature comforts.

Heavy Duty Trucks

Short of having to have a commercial driver’s license, these are the biggest trucks one can buy. These mammoths are considerably bigger than those in the full-sized class, both in terms of engine performance, overall size and MSRP.

These trucks are ideal for people who have to take building materials and construction equipment from one site to another. Because these heavy duty trucks are so often used for work trucks, the trim levels tend to be more slimmed down, as are the extra features. However, these trucks are geared more toward utility and functionality than interior comfort and style. They are still very comfortable and plenty stylish but Chevy knows you don’t want to spend your hard-earned money on unnecessary extras.
