Watch a Chevy SS Hit 163 mph on a Texas Toll Road

Hennessey is known for tuning high-performance machinery from General Motors (a lot of Chevy’s) and taxing it out on the Grand Parkway, a new stretch of toll road that can be found on the outskirts of Houston, Texas. Remember when they did it with the Cadillac CTS-V, pushing its twin turbochargers until it passed that 220 mph milestone? Or recently, when they pushed the Corvette Stingray with nitrous all the way up to 200 miles per hour? These are the kind of vehicles you’re not going to want to miss an oil change on (you don’t want them seizing up on you! Well, now it is time for the new Chevy SS.

The Chevy SS they took out which was fitted with the HPE600 Supercharger upgrade, and they took the Bowtie muscle sedan out onto that closed-off section of Texas toll road we have come to know so well. It is a double benefit for state officials, as they test out their new TxTag system and ran it all the way to 163 mph. If you are wondering why that is all, even with the modifications, it is because Chevy will only allow the SS to run to its top speed in the fifth of the six gears available. It is likely very capable of going a lot faster, but we won’t know how much for sure until someone finagles their way into deactivating the speed limiter. Check out the video below!
