The Chevy Suburban is the longest-used nameplate in the auto industry—worldwide, not just here in the US—with a production run that started in 1934. For some ninety years, the Suburban has been one of the most impressive vehicles on the road.

As you might imagine, there have been some significant changes since it first hit the scene; the original Chevy Suburban would best be described as a large station wagon, whereas the 2025 Chevy Suburban is a stunning, full-size SUV with best-in-class cargo capacity and amazing updates throughout.

“Update” is the keyword for the 2025 Suburban because it’s enjoying a revision and facelift for this new model year. Although this isn’t a full redesign, the changes for 2025 are quite significant inside and out; plus, you can find boosted performance and a whole host of all-new features never before available.

Whether the 2025 Suburban has enough to make it a better pick for you than a 2024 model comes down to what you’re looking for and if it has something that last year’s model doesn’t. So, let’s take a look at what’s new and see if you should be on the lookout for what Chevy has added for this exciting new model year.

An Interior Refresh and Updates

Some of the biggest changes for the 2025 Suburban can be found inside, where the cabin has been thoroughly updated and refreshed. Although this SUV hasn’t been redesigned, the changes make the interior feel roomier and more spacious, with a better flow to it when you’re inside. Considering you already get best-in-class cargo capacity with the massive interior of the Suburban, that’s saying something.

The centerpiece of the new interior is a stunning 17.7-inch freeform infotainment display that is standard in every model and canted slightly toward the driver for easier visibility. This gorgeous new screen is paired with a standard 11.0-inch Driver Information Center to provide you with all of the information you need in a way that’s easy to read at a glance.

The interior also features a new steering wheel design that looks great and is easy to keep a hold of, plus a redesigned center console with new storage options and improved features like more convenient placement of the available wireless charging pad. Certain trims include more gorgeous details, like the Jet Black and Sky Cool Gray interior of the Premier or the unique Victory Red stitching of the RST.

An Exterior Facelift and Restyling

Some of the updates for the 2025 model year that you’ll likely notice first are the exterior facelift and revision to its overall styling. All six trims for the Suburban have received a new front fascia, immediately setting them apart from the 2024 Suburban, plus certain trims have unique design touches. For example, the Z71 (which is built to handle dirt and gravel, making it perfect for camping or taking your boat to the river) incorporates skid plates and a high-approach front fascia into its overall look. By comparison, the luxurious High Country trim has black and Galvano Chrome details to create a rich, sophisticated look.

In general, the 2025 Suburban features a bolder, more aggressive overall stance that adds to its confident, powerful looks. One of the most exciting new features is the addition of 24-inch wheels available for the first time on the RST and High Country trims. They give this SUV an even more dominant and strong appearance, while dual C-shaped lights on the front end help tie the Suburban into the overall look of Chevy’s SUV lineup. Other details like welcome and walk-away lighting animations for the Premier and High Country trims further elevate the personality of this full-size SUV.

A Boosted Turbo-Diesel Engine

The Chevy Suburban has had a diesel engine available for quite some time now—the same engine found in the full-size Silverado 1500 pickup. Recently, Chevy updated the tuning for this engine on the Silverado 1500 to wild acclaim, and for 2025, it’s the Suburban’s turn. Starting this year, the 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine for the Suburban now delivers 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque; this is a 10% increase in horsepower and more than a 7% boost to torque.

It comes with a ten-speed automatic transmission and is available on all trims—including the Z71—for the first time ever, making it easier to get a Chevy Suburban with everything you’re looking for. We’ll admit that not everyone wants a diesel engine in a full-size SUV, but having this as an option illustrates how well Chevy meets the needs of a wide range of drivers, with something for everyone.

Improved Handling and Ride Quality

More power from the diesel engine is great, but that’s not the only way Chevy’s engineers and designers have improved your experience behind the wheel of the Suburban. For the 2025 model year, the multilink independent rear suspension has been updated and enhanced to deliver a more refined and comfortable ride.

This, along with additional steering calibration for the Suburban, helps to improve driver confidence when you’re behind the wheel, even when dealing with rough weather or treacherous road conditions. Tighter, improved handling is something that you might not see advertised much since it’s not as exciting as a large infotainment display, but it’s invaluable when it comes to enjoying your drive.

The 2025 Suburban is more responsive and provides you with a better overall driving experience in terms of both handling and ride quality. Plus, you can still get amazing features like the available Air Ride Adaptive Suspension that offers automatic load-leveling and ride-height adjustment to reduce drag and provide you with a superior, more aerodynamic driving experience on the highway.

Magnetic Ride Control also remains available for the 2025 Suburban, which uses sensors to scan the road a thousand times per second, making near-instantaneous adjustments to damping. This is one of the fastest-acting damping systems in the auto industry, providing you with an incredibly smooth and comfortable experience no matter how rough the road gets.

Now Safer Than Ever Before

As far as we’re concerned, when it comes to any vehicle, nothing is more important than how well it can keep you and your loved ones safe on the road. This is something Chevy clearly believes in as they’ve been adding amazing safety technology as standard features to their vehicles, with even more available.

The 2025 Suburban is the perfect illustration of this, as the Chevy Safety Assist suite comes standard with things like a Forward Collision Alert, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, and Lane Keep Assist with a Lane Departure Warning. You can also get GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous hands-free driving technology, which is now compatible with more than 400,000 miles of roads across the US and Canada.

New for the 2025 model, a Connected Cameras system consists of a fully integrated network of cameras that covers both the interior and exterior of your vehicle. This includes a 360-degree view of the area around you, all of which can be accessed remotely to keep an eye on things wherever you are. This system also features Crash Recording, Security Recording, a My Recordings feature for the built-in dashcam, and even industry-first cloud storage to ensure important footage is backed up remotely.

All of this gives you remarkable peace of mind that can help in the event of a collision, if your vehicle is stolen, or a wide range of other situations.

Experience the 2025 Suburban for Yourself

As you can see, the updates for the 2025 Chevy Suburban are significant and much more than new exterior colors (though two new colors are available: Cypress Gray and Lakeshore Blue Metallic). With so much on offer, this is a huge facelift for the Suburban, giving you a wide range of amazing features to enjoy and choose from.
