For the most popular cars for each state, the list would be extremely boring. It would be chock full of Honda Civics, Ford F-150s, Silverados, Grand Caravan, Jeep, and any other common vehicle you see driving around on the roads. However, if you look at what car sells higher than the national average in each state; the results become pretty interesting. Especially for Ohio, where the 2016 Chevy Cruze is their unofficial car. No doubt the infamous King’s Automall in Mason, Ohio is a big part of this; seeing as there are thousands of diverse new and used cars for sale. I wouldn’t be surprised to see quite a few Cruzes in their Chevy lot.

It’s surprising that the Cruze is the unofficial state car of Ohio, so what’s the reason behind it?

Determining the Percentage

Remember, this percentage is determined by the Cruzes sales in Ohio compared to the state average; not the most popular car. Popular Mechanics did an article on the unofficial state cars of America, and used Tom Libby from IHS Automotive to help determine these numbers. The way he did this was pull data about the make and model of every car sold in the U.S., and then calculate the popularity of each car by a percentage using the registration data. Then, he narrowed it down even further and compared the different states percentage to the national average.

Therefore, there is no room for human error. The numbers can’t be wrong, or lie, because they were pulled directly from the Department of Motor Vehicles census data.

Much Higher Than Average

The 2016 Chevy Cruze in Ohio sells at 201 percent higher when compared to the national average, which is about double the rate of the national average. This means that the world-wide infamous Chevy Cruze has finally found a niche in the Ohio market, and larger auto dealers in Ohio like King’s Automall have probably stocked up on this vehicle; because they have seen its success first hand.

Not only have auto dealers seen the Cruze’s success, but I’m sure they’ve heard about it overseas as well.

Global Success

The Chevy Cruze has been a popular model since it was first released in America, and since 2008 Chevy has sold over 3.5 million versions of the model worldwide. It seems like consumers in Ohio realized why the Cruze was so successful overseas, and they are the first state to truly grasp just how good of a car the Cruze is.

Why is it so popular though? It’s sells at a 201 percent of national average in Ohio, and is an international success. It’s surprising, especially since Chevy is generally renowned for their trucks/sports cars; not compact daily drivers.

Price

A lot of it probably has to do with the price. It’s a compact car that’s not only powerful, loaded with standard state-of-the-art technological features, extremely fuel-efficient, and well designed; but affordable. The 2016 model saw some serious improvements to the aspects mentioned above, which are the qualities everyone loves about the Cruze; and it’s now better than ever.

Which you would think is why it would be such an expensive vehicle, especially because of all its upgrades for 2016, but it’s not. The 2016 Cruze only starts at an MSRP of $16,620, which is cheaper than a lot of the full-size sedans on the market today, and still has the same type of quality and reliability as one; just in a smaller frame.
