All-New Chevy Tahoe: Bigger and Better than Ever
A lot of the time, a new model year for a vehicle brings a couple of small upgrades, maybe some interior updates, and that’s about it. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it can make it a little difficult to get too excited for a new year and its updates. When looking at Chevy SUVs, particularly those on the way in the 2021 model year, there are a couple of major standouts, perhaps most notably the 2021 Chevy Tahoe. The all-new Tahoe is getting much more than a couple of new paint colors or an improved interior – it’s a whole new generation with incredible upgrades.
Today, we’re going to take a close look at the 2021 Tahoe to see what’s so exciting about it. In particular, we’ll compare it to the 2020 model, which is the last of the previous generation, and really get a good sense of the changes that have been made to it. If you’re interested in large and powerful Chevy SUVs, then the all-new Tahoe is definitely going to be one to keep an eye on. And you’re about to see why…
Larger Overall Size
One of the first things you’re bound to notice about the 2021 Chevy Tahoe is that it is larger than ever before – quite a bit larger. The all-new Tahoe is about 6 inches longer overall than the 2020 model, and more than an inch taller. That might not seem like a huge amount, but it is definitely noticeable if you look at them side by side. This larger size not only makes the new Tahoe more impressive and commanding on the road but has also resulted in much more interior space.
More Spacious Interior
The increase in overall size is only part of the equation when it comes to the significant boost to the interior room with the 2021 Tahoe. There are a couple of things at play here, actually, which have come together to provide a more spacious interior than ever before. The larger size is part of it, but the incredible new suspension (we’ll talk about that later on) is also a major factor that has allowed for a lower floor inside the cabin. How much of a difference does this actually make?
Well, consider this: the 2020 Tahoe offers seating for up to nine people when properly configured. It has up to 15.3 cu ft of cargo space behind the third row of seats, up to 51.7 cu ft of space behind the second row, and a total of 94.7 cu ft of cargo area behind the front row. That’s certainly a tremendous amount of room inside, but the all-new Tahoe goes far beyond it.
Inside the 2021 Tahoe, you still have seating for up to nine people, but you now have far more room for all of your passengers. And in terms of cargo space, the all-new Tahoe has 25.5 cu ft of space behind the third row, 72.6 cu ft of space behind the second row of seats, and 122.9 cu ft of area behind the front row. As you can see, the 2021 model has a lot more space inside, throughout the interior, giving you a lot of room for running errands, loading up with camping equipment, or piling in everything you need for some serious tailgating.
Incredible Interior Features
Inside the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, you’ll find a whole host of features that are brand new for this model and have never been available, as well as upgraded options beyond what we’ve seen in the past. For example, there’s an available power sliding front center console that lets you easily adjust your storage options and provides you with secure storage for valuable items. An available 10-inch Infotainment display is large and gorgeous, making it easy to plot your course or check the view from the available nine camera angles.
There is also a stunning 15-inch head-up display, which lets you keep an eye on navigation info and other things you need to see without ever taking your focus from the road. You can also get an available rear-seat media system, which includes a pair of 12-inch LCD touchscreens, letting your passengers stay entertained on even the longest road trips. All of this and more makes for one of the most sophisticated and luxurious interiors we’ve ever seen on a Chevy SUV.
More Trim Levels
The Chevy lineup of vehicles is all about giving you lots of options to explore in order to get just what you want in your vehicle. The all-new 2021 Tahoe has three new trims for you to choose from, in addition to the existing three trim carried over from 2020. This gives you more freedom than ever before to get just what you need. These trims include:
- RST – A bold new trim with impressive street styling that is sure to immediately get noticed and make a statement.
- Z71 – A new off-road trim that lets you equip your Tahoe with everything you need to hit the trail; comes standard with 4WD and 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.
- High Country – The new pinnacle of Tahoe design and luxury, this trim includes a powerful engine, magnetic ride control, and unique High Country styling.
With six different trims to choose from, you can get exactly what you need in terms of both standard and available features.
More Engine Options
You can choose from three different engines for the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, including the great standard gas engines from years past, plus a new turbo-diesel option. No matter what level of power and performance you’re looking for, Chevy has you covered. The standard engine on the all-new Tahoe is a 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 that offers up to 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.
Then there is an available 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine that delivers up to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque for incredible overall performance. The new engine is a Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel that is expected to provide up to 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque for great towing power and fuel economy. All three engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission to ensure a smooth and responsive driving experience.
Air Ride Suspension
One of the features we’re most excited about in the 2021 Tahoe is the all-new first-in-class Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive suspension system. This new suspension optimizes ride height and your comfort by adjusting the suspension to best match the driving conditions. It is able to both raise and lower your Tahoe to provide you with additional clearance when needed, or to optimize aerodynamics for the best efficiency and overall performance.
This new suspension can even raise and lower the vehicle when you are parked, making it easier for you and your passengers to get into or out of the Tahoe. Paired with an independent rear suspension and available magnetic ride control, this makes the all-new Tahoe incredibly fun to drive and ensures a very comfortable and smooth experience for everyone in the vehicle. The new suspension design, particularly the independent rear suspension, also plays a part in why the 2021 Tahoe has more interior space than ever before.
