Getting Hyped About the 2025 Chevy Corvette E-Ray
Everyone has been talking about the upcoming 2025 Corvette ZR1—and appropriately so, as this is a very exciting moment in performance auto history—but while Chevy has released only the tiniest teasers about the ZR1, they have similarly played it close to the pocket with the 2025 Chevy Corvette E-Ray. Chevy has confirmed that the electrified, all-wheel-drive version of its world-famous sports car will return in 2025, but with very few specifics revealed.
However, with a projected “Summer 2024” launch date, the 2025 Corvette E-Ray will allegedly be making an appearance sooner rather than later. Despite Chevy’s tight-lipped lack of fanfare, many experts feel that the 2025 Corvette E-Ray will be a more finely tuned version of the 2024 model. Let’s take a look at what Chevy has shared with us so far, along with some of our favorite Corvette E-Ray features; whether you’re heading to the track or enjoy looking cool everywhere you go, the 2025 Corvette E-Ray is definitely a performance car to watch.
An Overview of the 2025 Corvette E-Ray
The Corvette E-Ray is brand-new for 2025 and seems to magically combine all-wheel drive, an electric powertrain, and blazing-fast speeds. The recipe is no secret, however: the electric powertrain is responsible for everything—the all-wheel drive, the high speeds and acceleration rates, and a boost in horsepower and torque.
The 2025 Corvette Stingray and E-Ray share the same 6.2L V8 engine; this is Chevy’s go-to performance engine, and it reliably provides the kind of power that makes performance enthusiasts grin and nod. In the Stingray, this engine delivers 490 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Drivers who add the Z51 Performance package unleash the beast, bumping those numbers up to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, resulting in a slightly zippier model that can go from zero to sixty in an astonishing 2.9 seconds.
The E-Ray takes this same engine and adds an electrified motor to the front axle; this is known as the Electric Drive Unit, and it’s powered by a self-charging 1.9-kWh lithium-ion battery with an integrated power electronics system. Together, the 6.2L V8 engine, the 1.9-kWh battery, and the Electric Drive Unit conjure up a mighty 655 hp. How powerful is that? Well, it can get you from zero to sixty in just 2.5 seconds.
An extra motor on the rear axle provides additional control and responsiveness, enhancing the capabilities of the electric powertrain. Combined with the Corvette’s mid-engine design, the E-Ray’s eAWD provides further stability in wet weather and along tight corners.
Another fun feature provided by this electrified setup is Stealth Mode. When Stealth Mode is activated, the E-Ray can travel up to four miles on exclusively electric power while traveling at speeds less than 45 mph. While half the fun of having a performance car is feeling and hearing those mighty revs, most people can think of at least a few situations where traveling almost noiselessly could be helpful.
As of now, there are no changes expected for any of these components, but, knowing Chevy, a post-debut model year tune-up might be in order.
What’s New for the 2025 E-Ray?
Again, Chevy has been a little shy with the details regarding all of the 2025 Corvette models, including the highly-awaited ZR1 variant. As of this writing, Chevy has shared only a few tantalizing clues that seem to confirm that the E-Ray will be cooler than ever when it returns next year.
The first announcement concerns exterior colors. Chevrolet has designed the Corvette to be not only a performance car for the people, but a very attractive performance car for the people. From the 1953 concept to the 2025 models, Corvettes are world-renowned for their distinctive appearance. While you can certainly purchase one with a standard exterior color—such as Arctic White, Torch Red, and Black—you might want to peruse the 2025 color palette before you commit. Sebring Orange Tintcoat Metallic will return, presumably replacing the 2024 Amplify Orange Tintcoat. New exterior color options include Competition Yellow Tintcoat Metallic and Hysteria Purple Metallic.
There’s been no word so far about updates to racing stripes or stinger stripe options, but the Corvette will offer its calipers now in Velocity Yellow. The previous year’s caliper color options included Bright Red, Edge Red, Edge Yellow, and Orange, but it’s not clear if Velocity Yellow will be added to the list or replace any of the current options.
The interior color scheme is also receiving a makeover with a new Habanero option. As a new take on an old favorite, blue stitching will be offered on the traditional black interior. The 1LZ and 2LZ trims will also now include a standard leather steering wheel airbag cover.
The 2025 E-Ray’s Trims and Features
Given that the current details include updates to the 1LZ and 2LZ trims, it appears the current trim structure will continue, with the 1LZ as the entry-level trim and the 3LZ trim getting star treatment.
All three trims are available either as a coupe (with removable roof panels) or as a convertible (for easy open-air driving). The standard convertible roof is a retractable hard top, though keep in mind, this is a Corvette, so customization is encouraged; Corvette E-Ray convertible drivers have their choice of Carbon Flash or body color for their roof.
The 2024 1LZ includes all the right stuff, from a performance suspension system with Magnetic Selective Ride Control to Brembo carbon ceramic antilock brakes to a 10-speaker Bose Premium audio system.
Stepping up to the 2LZ trim unlocks upgrades like HD cameras for the front and rear, a heated steering wheel, wireless device charging (in addition to the wireless Android Auto & Apply CarPlay connectivity), and a boost in the number of speakers for the Bose Performance Series audio system (making it fourteen). Additional driver assistance features join the 2LZ trim, such as Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
The top-tier 3LZ trim offers its own exclusive array of features, including a carbon fiber leather-wrapped steering wheel, a suede microfiber-wrapped interior, and GT2 bucket seats for better body stability and comfort at higher speeds.
The 2LZ and 3LZ trims also include a performance data and video recorder, which includes a 1080p HD camera mounted on the windshield that records both video and audio. This footage can be replayed on the color touchscreen or saved to a memory card for future review. From acceleration times to quarter-mile records, the performance recorder can capture speed, RPMs, G-forces, lap times, and more.
The 2025 Corvette E-Ray, An Electric Superstar
The anticipation of waiting for a new model is always exciting, especially when the vehicle in question is one with the reputation and acclaim of the Chevy Corvette.
While we wait for more announcements, experts and enthusiasts alike can only speculate how similar and different the 2024 and 2025 Corvette E-Rays will be. With the discovery of how electric power can improve our favorite performance vehicles, it looks as if the Corvette E-Ray will lead the future of sports cars. Over time, it will be truly fascinating to see how the Corvette evolves; in the meantime, the E-Ray has demonstrated that change is nothing to fear.
