Our Most Common Service and Why it is So Important

One of our most commonly used services is an oil change. Many people have questions about how often they should have their oil changed and what type of oil should they use. These are very good questions because there are many variables that will affect the quality of an oil change; and subsequently,  the effects that it will have on your vehicle. A great oil change will improve the engine performance of your automobile. The engine will be quieter and this means a smoother ride for you. Ultimately, whatever oil you choose to have for your oil change we will make certain that we are thorough and you are satisfied with the outcome.

Things That Will Affect the Frequency of When You Should Have an Oil Change

There are many things to consider with regards to the intervals between oil changes and the type of oil that you should use when considering oil changes for your vehicle. The biggest factor to consider is the in manner which your vehicle is utilized. Do you use your automobile for just travel to work, or do you travel in your vehicle a lot and perhaps do a little off-roading? These are all questions that you should have in mind when making the decision with regards to the frequency that you should change your oil.

Towing Uphill

When you use your vehicle to tow uphill, the vehicle will run hot and as a result, this puts a lot of wear and tear on your vehicle. Consequently, this results in metal particles that accumulate in the oil. In addition, when the vehicle runs hot it causes premature oxidation causing an increase of acids, sludge, and deposits in your oil. The build-up of these deposits in your oil will have an effect on your engine performance. It is very important to keep your engine in top working condition and change your oil frequently.

Age and Condition of The Vehicle

Older vehicles and vehicles with higher mileage (over 75,000) need frequent and consistent oil changes. A vehicle that is aged or has high mileage have parts that require better lubrication. The gaskets and seals shrink and get brittle, so frequent oil changes and a better quality oil would be your best bet to use.

If you only utilize your vehicle for city driving or just short trips to work, this can be very difficult on your vehicle. If it is less than 5 miles per trip, the oil does not reach the optimal temperature to be effective. Water and fuel will accumulate in the crankcase will affect performance and will require more frequent oil changes.

If you drive your vehicle on a lot of dirt roads, dirt, grime, and gravel will get into the engine. A frequent oil change will help to keep your engine healthy and free of dirt and grime.

Always be certain to consult with the Owner’s Manual for the type of oil and frequency at which it is recommended that you change it. The average recommended intervals are to change the oil at every 3,000 miles that you drive with your vehicle. However, the factors that are listed above will also have an effect on the frequency of which you should have an oil change. For optimal performance and longer life, you should have regular oil changes. This will help you to get the most out of your vehicle and could save you money on expensive repairs in the future.

Types of Oil and The Advantages of Both

There are advantages to both synthetic oil and mineral oil for automobiles. The Synthetic oil has fewer impurities than mineral oil and as a result is not likely to break down as quickly as the mineral oil. It is also the more environmentally friendly option and this is largely due to the fact that there are fewer impurities in synthetic oil. When there are fewer impurities in the oil,  there are fewer impurities expelled to the environment. The downside to the synthetic oil is that the cost to use this option will be higher than the traditional oil. There are some combination synthetic and mineral oils that might be a less expensive option to try out the next time that you have an oil change.
