In Appreciation of your Dealer’s Tire Shop
Why is your dealer’s tire shop so important? One of the biggest bummers of owning a car is regular maintenance. Even when covered by a warranty, your car needs oil changes, tire rotations and various filter replacements. While it’s easy to shrug off these minor-sounding maintenance chores, it’s actually incredibly important to keep up with your tires, specifically. Tires that aren’t properly rotated or maintained can damage your vehicles and put you and others in danger. Luckily, your dealer’s tire shop is an expert in tire maintenance. They know what tires work best for your car, what alignments produce the least amount of wear, and when rotations should occur. Start a relationship with your tire shop today and reap the rewards down the road.
Luckily, McCluskey Chevy has years of experience working with customers and their tire needs. We approach your vehicle maintenance the same way we approach selling you a new or used vehicle. We help you craft a plan or make a purchase that best fits your budget and unique needs. Our award-winning customer service extends from the dealership floor to the back of the shop. We don’t just want to sell you a car, but rather be a helpful partner throughout your ownership journey.
A Matter of Tire Importance
For being such an important part of the driving experience, tires don’t get much love. Often overshadowed by high-powered engines, super sticky brakes and slick transmissions, tires are the thing that keeps everything running smoothly. High-powered engines wouldn’t achieve low 0-60 times without tacky tires controlling their launch. Even the best brakes are nearly useless without good tires, and a perfect transmission won’t help you when the roads are slippery. When you keep up with tire maintenance, you are making sure your car stays efficient and safe.
Two Sets of Shoes
It may sound ridiculous to have your car change tires depending on the season but in a climate like Cincinnati’s it’s simply a matter of safety. While all-season tires may be able to survive the hot summer months, they’re seriously lacking when it comes to dealing with snow and ice. Winter tires have a couple of key features that make them a must-have during the snow season:
- Different tread rubber. Winter tires use a more flexible tread that ca++n withstand lower temperatures without becoming brittle. All-season tires, which use a tread that works best in higher temperatures, may be more vulnerable to cracking during the winter months.
- Tread depth and patterns. Winter tires use deeper treads and more unique patterns to avoid snow and ice clogging. While all tires are good at expelling water, winter tires are far better at controlling snow and ice.
- Biting Edges. Winter tires are built to maintain traction on slippery surfaces. Sharp, irregular edges increase grip in places where all season tires would fail.
McCluskey Chevrolet has been working with Cincinnati-area drivers for years and knows the importance of good winter tires. If you’re new to the area or have simply never used winter tires, we can help you find tires for the snow season without breaking the bank.
Wear and Tear
Your tires should be the only part of your car that touches the ground; if they’re not, please contact our service department! While every part on your car is impacted by the miles you drive, none are more affected than your tires. For every bump and pothole you are able to feel, your tires feel thousands more. Every mile of asphalt wears a microscopic layer of rubber off your tires as well. All this wear and tear breaks down your tires to the point where stopping distances increase and the safety of defensive maneuvers decreases. An old pair of tires exponentially expands your odds of being in a wreck, no matter how skilled you are on the road.
A perfect time to get your tires examined for wear and tear is during your regular rotation, which should be performed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. During a tire rotation, a tire tech will swap your front and back tires, or a combination of front and back tires, to make sure they wear evenly. Uneven tires can lead to the same issues as totally worn tires and also may put undue stress on other components of the car. During a rotation, a tire tech will see your tires up close and will be able to determine if a new set is needed. They may also recommend a tire more suited for your driving style or commute, as some tires are better on the freeway than back roads, and vice versa. Regular rotation may also save you money in the long run, as you may need to replace just one or two tires instead of a new set of four.
The Cost
All of the engineering that goes into a modern tire can sometimes add up to a hefty price tag. At McCluskey Chevy, we don’t want the cost of a new set of tires to stand between you and a safe journey for you and your family. At our tire shop, we’re happy to work with you and your budget to find a set that won’t break the bank. Our discount tires are marked down in price only – we stock high-quality tires and won’t stick you with a poorly made set. In the same way that our sales teams are trained to get you the best deal on a vehicle, our tire shop staff is trained to get you a great deal on tires.
Chevy Knowledge
At McCluskey, we know Chevy products like the back of our hand. The vast majority of cars that enter our tire shop are Chevrolets and our techs are experts on what does and doesn’t work when it comes to Chevy products. Even if you bought your Chevy somewhere else, we’re happy to help you get the tires you need. No matter how good your local tire shop is, they’re most likely just typing your car into a computer and then matching a tire to its profile. We use our deep well of experience with your car to choose a tire we know will work with your specific model and year. Tire shops and other dealers simply can’t match our level of expertise.
