Thanksgiving

Does Thanksgiving mean the same in America as it once did? Thanksgiving use to be a time of giving and sharing with friends and family; a time to eat far too much and sit around the fire as a family and watch the Lion’s play (never have figured that out). It was a time to help others less fortunate than yourself. It was a time as a child that filled you with such excitement you could hardly wait. It also signified Christmas was just around the corner. It was always a tradition in my family that right after Thanksgiving the entire family got into the station wagon and off we went to Corsy’s tree farm to pick out and cut down our own tree. I wish the feeling you got as a child leading up to the holidays could be bottled and sold. What a better place this world would be. Thanksgiving has now become a blur. Rushing around to get all the supplies it takes to prepare the meal; all the time pushing and shoving your way through the store to get what you need due to the fact that Christmas has somehow been moved to November. As we all hurry about to get what we need (or think we need), how many of us stop to think what Thanksgiving is really about? As all of us race through this blur of a holiday season, we all need to take the time to truly be thankful for who we have in our lives, the things that have been provided for us, and how truly blessed as individuals we are. No matter how bad things may seem at times, someone else has it far worse. We as Americans, and the world for that matter, need to start looking out for each other instead of the way things have become. We can start as individuals with just simple items. Call someone you have not talked to in a while because of some stupid reason you probably don’t even remember. Help a stranger have a better day. Simply treat the person at the next business you visit as a friend. Let’s get back to being thankful for what we have and who we are instead of being mad at what we don’t have or who we did not become. If you’re reading this you have reason to be thankful.
