The Change Of Season Brings New Chevy Designs
Fall will soon be here: football, school back in, leaves turning colors and cooler weather. It’s also time for the “new cars” to come out. I am definitely showing my age but “wow,” how that has changed! In the fifties, the new car showing was a big deal. Showroom windows would have paper taped on them to hide the cars. The manufactures would keep the media in the dark about the new changes on their products. Only “car magazines” would have a few glimpses of what was coming out. There was no internet and only three networks on television, which relied heavily on GM, Ford and Chrysler for advertisement so it wasn’t that hard to keep the public anxious about the new cars and trucks that would soon be available. Good deals could be made on the “year-old” new cars which were still in inventory which is still true today. But the excitement of the “new car showing” was hard to beat . People would put on their “sunday best” to view the new cars. The dealers would put on a show; popcorn, hot dogs, balloons….it was like a festival. It was pretty neat to be the first one on your street to have the brand new 57 Chev Bel Air or later on the first 67 Camaro. Great deals can still be made at this time of year but the anticipation of what the new cars are going to look like has been spoiled by the access of the media, cable tv and the internet. It’s hard to keep a secret these days.
