When it comes to SUVs, having the proper set of wheels can make or break the vehicle’s overall performance. Because SUVs are built to carry a lot of people and a heavier payload than sedans, ensuring that your tires are in good condition is critical. No one wants to suffer through a blow-out on a family road trip. Chevy Suburban tires are no different. If you have an 11th generation (2015-2020) model, then you need to be aware of the type of tires that are compatible with your vehicle. That’s why our team here at McCluskey Chevy has created this ultimate guide to Chevy Suburban tires. We also provide quality discount tires in Cincinnati, OH, that will fit your Suburban. To start, we’ve broken it down into trim levels to make it easier for you to find the specific set of wheels required for your Suburban model.

OEM Wheel Sizes and Tire Info

There are many different wheel sizes and designs for the 11th generation of Chevy Suburban models. We are going to be looking at only OEM tires or the original equipment put on by the manufacturer.

If you are driving a 2015 version, it may be time to get a new set of wheels. This depends mostly on how much driving you’ve done over the last five years. Newer models mostly won’t need any attention for a while, unless you happen to run over a sharp nail or frequently use excessive braking.

The base LS and the LT versions ride on 18-inch OEM alloy wheels with a 5-split spoke design. The LTZ model rolls on 20-inch OEM alloy wheels that can come in a variety of designs and finishes. Finishes include chrome, polished, or polished with charcoal gray pockets. Designs include 5 spoke, 6 spoke, or 6 Y-spoke patterns.

Optional on the 11th generation Suburban are 22-inch wheels that also come in a wide range of finishes and patterns. Finishes include hyper silver with black or chrome inserts, machined silver, machined black, glossy black, chrome, hyper silver with no inserts, or solid black. Designs include 5 spoke, 5-double spoke, 6 spoke, 6-double spoke, 6-spilt spoke, 6 Y-spoke, or 7 spoke.

Types of Tires

Three rows of different types of tires are shown.

There are six types of tires used by Chevrolet. These include all-terrain, all-season, run-flat, performance, summer-only, and winter/snow. Not all of these are made for the Suburban, but we will give you a quick run-through of each type and what they are good for.

All-terrain tires are most likely to be equipped on your Chevy Suburban. These were chosen because they perform well over many different types of surfaces. They are great for city driving, off-roading, and inclement weather. However, because of their versatility, they may wear down faster and need to be checked every 7,500 miles.

All-season tires are another type of tire that you may have on your Suburban. These were designed to withstand the changing seasons all year long. With detailed thread configurations, these tires were made for solid performance during the winter and summer, but not necessarily excellent for either.

Run-flat tires are still a rare sight. They are a special breed because they can continue to travel at speeds below 50 mph with no air pressure. This means that if you run over a nail, you can drive yourself to the nearest mechanic to patch or change the tire.

Performance tires are typically seen on sporty cars. They are designed to handling high speeds. Unless you have modified your Suburban for racing, you most likely won’t be needing these.

For folks who live in arid or hot climates, summer tires are great to have. Using a special thread and compound, they were designed to handle hot and even wet roads. Here in Cincinnati, summer tires should only be used during the hot summer months and can be very dangerous to use in the icy winter.

Finally, winter/snow tires are something that many people need to have on-hand. They are designed to improve traction on snow and ice. This is something many people in Cincinnati should consider for the colder months.

The Chevy Suburban 11th Generation

Making its first appearance in New York in 2013, the 11th generation of Chevy Suburbans spans from 2015 until now. Still in production, this latest generation has seen the most technologically advanced improvements than its predecessors. It may surprise you to learn that the Suburban has been around since 1934. Let’s take a closer look at some of the highlights on each trim level that make this model so unique. Please note that some features are dependent on the year as well.

The base LS is anything but basic. This well-appointed ride offers plenty of cool features and enough power to drive a family of eight or nine people and their luggage around. If you need extra room for carting more cargo, you can utilize the fold-flat second and third rows of seating to transform the interior of this SUV. A rearview camera and rear park assist were also added for safety when backing out of tight spaces.

A side view of a black 2020 Chevy Suburban is shown with all-terrain tires, which are tires you could find at a discount tire Cincinnati, OH, garage.

The LT model featured heated leather seats with memory settings. It also comes with a power liftgate, a wireless charging pad, and a Bose stereo system. Safety features for the 11th generation LT model include forward collision and lane departure warning. You can also get one with a rear entertainment system and a sunroof.

The LTZ model, which became the Premier in 2017, features heated and cooled seats that are power-adjustable 12 ways. It also comes with additional safety systems such as front park assist, side blind zone alert with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change assist.

LED daytime running lamps became standard in 2018 for optimized visibility at night and during inclement weather. This is a great feature for our harsh winters.
