New bar in Downtown

The bar and restaurant cycle in Cincinnati has been pretty turbulent, but out of the ashes comes a fun new bar and lounge in Downtown. It almost feels like the Cincinnati dining scene has gotten a quick lube oil change. At 435 Elm Street, Downtown, it fills the space that was previously Diamond Palace. We are talking about Vyrsd Social Room, a plan with a name playing off of “versed,” as in “well versed,” as co-owner John Tekulve describes. The bar is also owned by Time Kemper. Let’s take a look at what future plans the two have in store for the space.

The lounge is currently serving both cocktails and craft beer. In the near future they hope to add food as well. If you’re familiar with the old space, Tekulve said that they cleaned it all up and warmed up the 1,600-square-foot space to make it more inviting. They integrated the use of burgundy, gold and brown hues and covering a large pillar in the space with stone. The bar is able to seat around 60 people, with tall bar tables and lounge seating. The four sweet big screens will be showing Bengals and Reds games when they plan to do special events.

The two did the renovations themselves, and they’ll also take a hands-on attitude toward running the bar. “Tim and I have a thumbprint on everything,” he said. “Most of the time, we’ll be here, the humble innkeepers.” At the moment, music is provided by DJs, but down the road, Tekulve hopes to add live shows — folk or jazz bands, and maybe burlesque shows, he said. Sounds like they have some big plans for the place, and we can’t wait to see what unfolds! With its location near the Duke Energy Convention Center, they also hope to appeal to the hotel crowd, Tekulve said. They are open from 8 p.m.-2:30 a.m. Tuesday – Sunday, so be sure to check them out. Apparently they plan to open more together, and we will try and keep you updated on that if you like what you see in Vyrsd!
