Facebook Fugitive On The Lam!

Fugitive On FacebookIt’s safe to say that pretty much everyone loves social media.  Its exponential growth over the past decade has been astonishing to watch.  This interactive medium first took root in teens and has since blossomed into ubiquity, encompassing vast swatches of people from all demographics.  Currently, the industry leader in both users and dollars is Facebook.  If you don’t have a profile, you’re one of the rare few.  It has the addictive attribute of letting you talk about yourself to an audience while simultaneously letting you keep tabs on friends and coworkers (and, let’s be honest, exes). Posting about your life can be a great way to vent, celebrate, or share; but we here at McCluskey Chevrolet, your Chevrolet Dealer Cincinnati, want to let you know that there are times when that status is best left unposted.

In the past week, a man on the run from state police has been continually updating his Facebook status. The man, Travis Nicolaysen, is a 26 year old from Port Angeles, Washington. He has been convicted of a laundry list of misdemeanors and felonies, including serious crimes like burglary, theft and assault.  He took to Facebook to let friends know that he evaded the police and was on the run. His wall has since exploded with the posts of friends and family. They range from offering support to Travis in his fugitive endeavors, to begging him to return home and accept the justice due to him.

Facebook has said that they are willing to help police if they believe the situation, and the law, requires it of them. They have an ability to track users from posts, but it is limited and in itself is no guarantee of catching Travis or any other fugitive. However, because of Facebook, the situation has gone viral and the national exposure has to be just about the worst thing for someone trying to lay low.

The police expect to catch Travis soon, but until then…

Call him mint jelly, ‘cause he’s on the lam.
